Whitesnake at Download
So I ventured forth in the rain and the s**t to see Whitesnake at Download on Friday.
And here's the thing. They were actually "good". Not breathtaking or brilliant but good. On a par with Def Leppard, so these were probably the best two bands of the day, although I also enjoyed Clutch who I know nothing about. Slash was dull and should not have been on after Whitesnake.
The set was sharp and to the point with little banter and seemed more energised because of it. The band played well and Coverdale was in good form. Yes, the vocals are what you expect and he suffers from stamina issues now after the first couple of songs. The band cover the issues quite well.
The audience were into them so gave much support and the new songs went down well.
I think they were a demonstration of how to do things the old school way so that was good.
The only real gripe was no "Aint No Love" but that's because I'm old.
Heard several people mutter how good they were as I walked out of the arena.

Reviews I've read online have been generally positive. I guess if anyone goes to a WS show expecting DC to sound anything like he did in his prime, they are going to be disappointed. However if, as you say, the vocals were as you expect, then you knew what was coming and were able to enjoy the show for what it is. The band certainly sound like they are doing a terrific job and DC's charisma and stage presence also cover over a lot of the cracks.

Thats exactly the case today, DC has surrounded himself with a group of great musicians who also happen to be decent singers as well.They have great material and although DC is limited vocally (and has been for at least a decade) he is still a great frontman and a living legend who still performs to a good standard,so all in all you get a great old fashioned Rock N Roll show  As has been stated if you expect DC to sing like he did in his prime then youre being unrealistic and probably dont like post 87 Whitesnake anyway?

Interesting to see this from up close. DC certainly looks in pretty good shape for a guy who tuns 68 in 3 months. I still wonder how long he intends to keep going for though.

Here is another one very close to DC & the stage. Including DC meeting the fans. Albeit seeing the stage as it is and the song from this vantage point seems to paint, like at 3 mins, it to be DC and his (powerful, especially vocally) backing band kind of thing.
He is having a ball and its good enough for most to enjoy and appreciate.

Daniel- I merely commented that he looked in decent shape for his age. I didn't comment on his vocals or indicate that him looking in decent shape for his age was enough for me. That's another matter entirely.
