It is a wonderful re-issue. Slightly better sounding version of Glasgow than I've had previously and I really love the whole release.

Re:

got it in the end primarily because i wanted the original "i need your love so bad" in all it's brilliance.

Glasgow is fantastic. Just what a bootleg should be- decent sound with the atmosphere of the audience (which this has in spades).

Slide it in (missing from the bootleg i have) is great. You can hear the keyboards (missing from the studio US mix) and it doesn't have that horrible half time middle section they added later. great backing vocals from someone-not sure who.

Didn't much care for this track when it first came out but the "new" solos lift it up a level.

I looked at the vinyl in hmv today. I just wondered why they didn't include the live gig as the second l.p. Or even made a third lp?

Re: Slide It In – Ultimate Special Edition

I don't have the Slide it in special edition. I found this, described as Standing in the shadow 2019 remastered:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULhbqHcsrGA

I've always prefered UK version of the album, but this track is so different even to the US one. It has some elements from 1987 version, as I can hear, and a completely new solo (Sykes?).
Does anyone knows (I don't get it from the special edition announcements and David's comments I heard), how did they do the 2019 Slide it in versions? From the original material (possibly 1984 mixing and re-recording precess) or they added a new parts lately (Hoekstra maybe)?

Re: Slide It In – Ultimate Special Edition

There are a few completely different parts to songs on the 2019 new master of Slide It In. Hungry for Love is the most different, with a new introduction, a keyboard solo and a slide guitar solo which were not on either the UK or US releases previously. These solos are very clearly by Jon Lord and Micky Moody so there's no question of someone adding 'new' solos. However, I take your point on the version of Standing in the Shadows. It's a completely different solo and I guess it could be an alternate solo recorded by either Mel or Sykes- or it might even be something Joel or Reb have added recently and which has been overdubbed.

Jon and Micky have been already on the UK version of Hungry for love. When about Standing in the shadow, it does not sound 1984 at all, it's far from even US mix. The solo is not Mel's definitely, not even sure if it is John's.

Re: Slide It In – Ultimate Special Edition

This edition is a real joy. I've been spending days listening to it.
I simply adore Slide it in album (UK mix), maybe my favourite. Impartially speaking, it's one of the best (together with Ready an Willing and 1987). Only if the final UK mix was more colored with Jon's keyboards, just like on these great monitor mixes (CD 4) and rough versions (CD 6). Unlike moste of you, I think this was a great line-up (with Micky and Bomber) just next to previouse one, with lots of potential, at least in blues-rock domain and in Europe. Pitty they didn't tour the album and do maybe another album ( see the ideas on unfinished symphonies CD 6). And David...how comfotable he was with his voice!
When it's about US mix, I've never liked it, sounding too hibrid to me; It would have been more interesting if they had at least completely rearranged it with Sykes for US market (although I'm not an admirer of him).
Some of the 2019 remixes (CD 3) are intersting, I like the ones wich are closer to the UK mix, the others not so much, they just don'd sound authentic. Like I said, CD 4 and CD 6 are superb! And Glasgow gig (CD 5) is great, but obviouselly with David, not as good as just a few months ago, showing first signes of voice problems.
Nice job really. I just don't understand why they have to change the original track runnung order, it really annoys me.

Not bad. They seem to have it nailed. Right down to using the mic stand as a phallic device. emoticon Oy!
