a) Which 3 "less than 'Purple' counterparts" are you referring to? emoticon

b) A bit harsh - and yes, I did take note of the "grinnyball" - though I suspect you may not be 100% serious with that appraisal. I agree that Blackmore is a superior guitarist to Page (in my non-humble opinion, of course) but Page wasn't exactly a slouch, either. emoticon
Page's playing on "Black Moutainside" - or it's 'fuller' version, "White Summer/Black Mountainside" is absolutely stellar and it alone would place him in any "Top 25 Guitarists of All Time" list that I'd compile.

Well, the one with Page would be my guess. On the assumption that Page would mandate the blues based rock path while Blackmore would mandate the progressive/neo-classical rock path, blues based rock would enjoy the honor of extreme popularity.

Particularly in the US, blues based rock rules the popularity charts. A while back, I lent Deepest Purple to a Zep, Skynard, 38 Special, etc... fan, and he was not too impressed with it. He singled out Demon's Eye as the best track, because it had the blues based riff feel and melody to it.
