Cardiff
Last night was an absolute belter.
Bedlam
Fireball
Bloodsucker
All I've got
Uncommon Man
The Surprising
Lazy
Birds of Prey
Knocking
Perfect Strangers
Space Truckin'
Smoke
Hush
Black Night
Very powerful performance-much more than the BBC gig. Gillan in as good a form as can be expected. Don higher in the mix than he was on the telly. Little Ian on great form.
Minor grumbles; I'd rather have Hip Boots rather than Bloodsucker. I don't care for Uncommon Man-i'd rather have above and beyond if they want to do a Jon Lord tribute-but i'd most definitely prefer Highway Star at that point in the set. Think they are playing Space & Smoke a smidge too slow these days. The form IP is in i wish they were still doing The Mule.
Highlights; Bedlam-great set opener followed by the follow up 2 punch combo of Fireball & Blood (irrespective of what i said above!) An energetic Knockin'. Awesome Birds of Prey- came across better than The Surprising. Biggest shock was enjoying the encore for the first time in ages (and using Rogers bass solo for a quick comfort break before the drive home)
Roll on the O2 on Thursday

Re: Cardiff
Great, glad you enjoyed. I too would prefer hip boots instead of Bloodsucker, but all in all I wouldn't like to complain about the setlist.
The new songs to me were the absolute highlight of the show.

Shows the difficulty/impossibility of getting a set-list that will please everyone. IMO Uncommon Man is a true MK Morse classic and is right up there with the 70s greats. I'm not a huge fan of Hip Boots so was glad that didn't make the cut.
Highway Star with Burn are probably my all time DP favourites so it's always slightly disappointing when HS drops out of the set.
However, I loved the set overall with 5 songs from this decade and the loss of a few older favourites is the price to pay for that I guess

Exactly. I think HS is my favourite ever DP song but without doubt the weakest link when it is played now. IG struggles really badly with it.

It's a bit too ELP for me. After the opening riff i like the backing track but i don't think Gillan found a great melody/lyric to match it. Just my opinion.

Musically I think it is great, but you are correct. The lyrics are awful, a problem I feel that was carried over to Infinite where the lyrics are the worst for me on a IG/RG Deep Purple album.

The only real Classic mk Morse song is SIFLS
There are other good/great songs, but nothing like SIFLS.

Re:
I say, that the most classic "classic Purple" song is Perfect Strangers and the most classic "modern Purple" song is Uncommon Man...
