Re: Sykes: No interest in ever talking to him again
I think the context here is that David has continued Whitesnake and kept them near the top of their profession, even now, and performed and written with Jimmy page in the interim. On the other hand John has... squandered his talents, maybe?

Re: Sykes: No interest in ever talking to him again
this new magazine looks good, may subscribe. I care, Sykes is masterful and I'd love to hear the story from his side. we've heard DC expound on the subject many times. seems NM, JS etc were all treated pretty shabbily for whatever reason.

Re: Sykes: No interest in ever talking to him again
Hm... Sykes gave a new sound to WS: he gave completely new approach, with his live performances, to the SII album (alhough I would prefer Galley/Moody sound live) and not to mention his contribution to 1987. Yes, he helped David opening a new chapter of WS and probably he has right to be angry for not be credited enough for that at the time. But I think his credits are not really as he thinks they are.It wouldn't be easy reconstructing all that happened around 1986-1987, but still, if it's true Sykes had an idea of recording lead vocals instead of David, that tells a lot. On the other hand, I'm sure some sort of 1987 would have happen anyway with some other fresh blood guitarist (say Vandenberg or Vai).

Re: Sykes: No interest in ever talking to him again
DC had well-publicised vocal problems that required sinus surgery in 1986. He may well have had confidence issues when recording 1987.
However from what I've read before Coverdale was equally frustrated with Sykes' demands on recording his guitar tracks (change of studio/producer - Mike Stone).

Re: Sykes: No interest in ever talking to him again
Its 30 years since he recorded the album. My understanding is he still lives on the royalties, he certainly doesn't live off his other work.
Why bring this up now? It was a difficult period. DC was difficult, Sykes was difficult yet they managed to record the most successful WS album (and also one of the most dated).
I haven't heard DC talk about working with him again, in fact the opposite.
Maybe he's on drugs.
