Please give this a listen...

Hi chaps, my daughter's new song....produced by, and all instruments played by, my son, Joe....in our home studio (amazing what you can do at home, nowadays, isn't it!).

Not rawk but good, all the same?!

It sounds fine, but the mix swamps the vocal in a lot of it, so either the vocal isn't forward enough, or something else isn't right in the mix. Its a common issue with "home studios" the recording is fine, but probably the monitors are not accurate enough and so don't allow for the mix being 100% right, other than on those actual monitors. I'm listen via studio head-phones, so they give crystal clear definition and clearly it sounds a bit different from the original setup version.

As a loop-tastic musical outing it sounds fine. Her other song appears o have clearer vocal, so a better mix. Like you said it's not Rawk, but good none the less.

I'm also confused here is this your daughter as well, or someone else?
Katéa – That Ain’t Love ?
Or is that someone different but on the same "crack in the road" page? That track the vocals are in the right place and that girl, if it's your daughter or not, can really sing.

Hi, cheers! Yes, someone else has commented about the vocal not being up front enough!

No, the other track isn't my daughter. This is only her second recording, trying to build up her confidence! She will get there, I'm sure, wherever 'there' is!

Actually, thinking about it, the other song, It 'aint easy', with the clearer vocal, was mixed and recorded in the home studio and the Secrets track was mixed in a pro studio in London! We used an AKG C414XLS (@£800 new) for the vocal at home and in London they used a Neumann M149 for the vocals(retails at around £3k!). Just goes to show, it's matching the mic and the voice that counts, innit?

So who did the actual recording and mix in the pro studio, their engineer perhaps ? Expensive gear doesn't guarantee the results if its in the hands of someone who can't use it properly or as is often the case can't be bothered to use it properly, for an amateur recording, then that would explain it. Lot of studio engineers have an "attitude" that's not helpful to someone who isn't already in the business. Condescending C*nts in many cases! They are doing you a favour, even though you're paying them to do the job. You should ask for a remix, get it done right.
