Thank you. Didn't read that before. But I'm not sure who is to blame. Only Gillan? The whole band? The management? The RRHoF? I just don't know.

I blame Gillan for it.
In the famous statement from HIM HE said that HE had talked to Coverdale.
"I spoke with David Coverdale last week and he expressed complete understanding of the way it was being handled; thanks David you’re a Gent".

That statement got corrected after the message from Blackmore.

"It should be stressed that there is no slight intended nor any desire to upset anyone regarding this decision; it is purely a mark of respect to Steve and Don. In fact, we would love to perform with Ritchie, David, Glen et al on Smoke on the Water in the encore jam".

Can't imagine the RRHOF would object if DC and GH would join in, after all they were inducted too.

Another thing I like to bring to the attention.
During the finale of the RRHOF Roger (the gent) joined in. Where were Gillan and Paice?
Were they pissed because the press only were interested why Blackmore wasn't there? Or were they not invited.

Deep Purple is and will always be my favourite band. Only the last mark is for me the weakest link.
But they have fallen in esteem.
To me Gillan came to the induction, after stating for years that he didn't care about it, wouldn't show up, to use it as a cheap way to promote the living and breathing Deep Purple and NOT what they achieved in the past.
And that last thing is just why they were inducted.

I think that it´s whole a bit different.

1.) AFAIK set of each band were approved by RRHOF... so there were obviously some kind of rules about how many, which songs and how long each of groups is allowed to perform.

2.) I read that IG (at that time when he wrote the statement) presumed or hoped that DP will close the ceremony (Smoke is fitting song for that isnt it + no disrespect to Cheap Trick, but they have been support group for Purple) - and then they would have a chance to do some sort of final allstar jam at the end of Smoke. But Cheap Trick were final band, so GH/DC´s performance happened during their set.

I think that sometimes - some of you see or look for some sort of evil intention where it simply isnt.

The final jam is a poor excuse for not having GH and DC onstage with Purple.

Take the 2013 induction for example. Rush were the final band and had the Foo Fighters 2112 tribute then played Tom Sawyer themselves followed by the "all star" jam. Heart were the penultimate band and did songs with their "classic" line-up and current line-up and managed to get Jerry Cantrell and Chris Cornell on stage as well.

So it can be done. GH and DC were willing, but current living breathing DP were not, despite the multiple statements and backtracking.

1) What has the approval of the set to do whether DC and GH were invited during SOTW?
If he (Gillan) wanted he could have asked them, just like he asked DC not to perform.

2)How could the RRHOF deny Gillan that final jam?
And was this the reason that our lordship Gillan didn't take part in the final jam?

Your remark about CT being supportband for DP is really stupid. Maybe the RRHOF found them better suited as DP?
Or they were afraid that no-one was going to be invited by Gillan? emoticon

Look in the mirror... any resemblance with Gillan or Payne?
This band can do no wrong...
