Black Sabbath may very well out sell Purple in the U.S. but thats the only country in which they do so.
But the States is where the money is to be made. Top 30 hit in the US is better than a top 10 hit in Germany, France, Russia or Italy. That is just a fact.
Potential record-buying people in the USA: 193 million
Potential record-buying people in Europe: 248 million
Europe is where the money is. America isn't all that important, really.

That's a fair enough point, but you don't hear Britney Spears raving on the radio that she has a number 1 hit in Albania and is looking forward to the Bulgarian alternative to the Brit Awards, do you?

only in America they sell backstage passess. only 25 tickets at only 10 shows is 250 passes for 75 000 US$ (300$for the pass and 100$ for ticket and daft t-shirt) for did they did do for free earlier. To quotewibble John Cougar Mellemcamp: "Ain't that America, the home of the free."

Absolutely 100% pointless statement, who gives a rats narrow ass about such nonsense????
America is practically irrelevant when it comes to British rock since atleast 1990.

The point is that there is a HUGE market outside the US. Europe is big. Japan is big.
You can sell millions and millions of albums (and outsell Black Sabbath) and live happily the rest of your life without bothering too much about the lack of MTV airplay...
But to get back to the original topic I think polls of these kinds are useless, but they also say a lot about the stuff that is required in order to be seen as a good frontman.
Gillan has very little in common with those guys so I was still a bit surprised that he was rated that high.
(And also we should remember that many of those bands have very average or anonymous band members except for the "charismatic" front man.)

Re: Gillan takes 30th in Classic Rock‘s ‘Best Frontman’ poll!
I am not arguing that the US is the only place worth cracking and that anywhere else outside of it is irrelevant. What I am saying is that America is the place where the fame, the girls, the drugs etc are gonna come from. It's also the place where it is important to be seen with money. Lets face it, most bands thrive on the mere thought of getting to the stage where they are "it".

Re: Gillan takes 30th in Classic Rock‘s ‘Best Frontman’ poll!
Tell that to Kiss way back in 1981 when they left America to do the exact same thing they did here, and that is a fact, they found out there was a big place for them outside of this vacuum called the U.S.A.
and they took major advantage of it,and they were able to give something to those abroad, and are thankful for it.
Had they not done this they woudn't be around today,American audiences are hand fed, unlike the rest of the world,I know,I've been to enough countries to witness the difference in the appreciation of music, and it's amazingly different abroad than it is here.(for the better,I assure you)
