Compared to guys like Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Tyler, Bon Scott etc, most people are gonna be fighting a losing battle! Gillan is not an overly charismatic frontman, whereas as those guys were/are. Think about it, Axl Rose, Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Scott and Steven Tyler are all off their heads and can control an audience like nobody's business (but just can't control themselves!). Gillan isn't even in the same league, in my opinion. Note that this was a top 100 greatest frontmen and not top 100 greatest singers.
totally agree, Ali.

Re: Gillan takes 30th in Classic Rock‘s ‘Best Frontman’ poll!
All these lists and polls are real !@#$. The wankers from these magazines do these list while they are drinking too many bears and write down what tehy think about it. And DP and Ian gillan do not have any credit by these guys. So, who cares? And what about such loosers as Axl Who? or others. Forget them. Ian Gillan is number 1!.

What the heck did I confuse? I've seen his name in a poll.

Re: Gillan takes 30th in Classic Rock‘s ‘Best Frontman’ poll!
Like Rahul I rate Coverdale a much better frontman than Gillan. Gillan is working on stage, Coverdale is entertaining. There are small points that make the difference. A good frontman knows where he is and shows the audience that he knows it (a fact, that is a great help for bootleg traders). He shows the audience, that he knows some people in the crowd, makes the impression to the audience that it can influence the setlist, changes his in-between-song-talks. No Ballamy stone or "my first wive" stories everyday. I enjoy it much more when Coverdale talks about the Greek roots of Timothy Drury in Athens and his experiences with asparagus in Cologne...
