Bands generally don't. I don't know how much they are charging. If I want a CD I just buy it. I look around get the best price and buy it. Others tell me the price of a CD is around the price of 3 beers or less. So I Base all my purchases on how many beers I could have bought. Shoes? 10 Beers.. That kind of thing. nondisclosed_email@example.com (DouglasT)Wed, 01 Jun 2016 12:11:36 +0000 Re: A question/ remark to Doogiehttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489354,from=rss#post489354https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489354,from=rss#post489354Very good points there. I suppose stores are not really counting for whim kind of sales. They think people come to shop for specific items. Hence, no stock to speak of. Local stores in my small home town order 1-2 copies of releases like you mentioned. For archive DP, the same.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rezi)Thu, 09 Apr 2015 21:19:31 +0000 Re: A question/ remark to Doogiehttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489338,from=rss#post489338https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489338,from=rss#post489338Don't know what that label does exactly, but seeing how there was only ONE copy of the cd,this is pretty strange! That store usually brings in at least 5 copies of the new releases, especially if it's "a name". They got over 10 copies of the Uli Jon Roth (for example). I think they only got the one copy BECAUSE the price was so high... price too high, no sales,...no sales, no copies in store...Catch 22.nondisclosed_email@example.com (purpletemple)Thu, 09 Apr 2015 20:26:17 +0000 Re: A question/ remark to Doogiehttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489330,from=rss#post489330https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489330,from=rss#post489330Independent labels have different operating costs than the major ones, different distribution avenues, advertising expenses. Yes, the bands do absorb some of these costs, but smaller labels often don't have the resources the majors do, so that money has to be made up in other ways, often at the expense of the consumer. The only way I can get Michael's albums here are as imports, so it costs even more for me.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RatBatBlu)Thu, 09 Apr 2015 18:19:43 +0000 Re: A question/ remark to Doogiehttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489322,from=rss#post489322https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489322,from=rss#post489322quote:purpletemple wrote: quote:RatBatBlu wrote: Its rare when the artist has a say when it comes to how much a label charges for their music. Deep Purple did when Made In Japan came out as they charged the single album price for a double. Sure, but why choosing to be with a label that sets the prices so high? I can't see that being too high on the priority list for bands. Idealism is great but won't bring bread on the table. The biggest thing is to find the label that takes care of the marketing side better than other candidates. Of course, in the best scenario, any "extra" money goes to the band. I doubt it, but hopefully. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rezi)Thu, 09 Apr 2015 12:18:45 +0000 Re: A question/ remark to Doogiehttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489321,from=rss#post489321https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p489321,from=rss#post489321quote:RatBatBlu wrote: Its rare when the artist has a say when it comes to how much a label charges for their music. Great tunes, great singing! This said, I really want to know why your record company raises the price of the cd so high? I paid 23 euro for the cd/dvd pack where the usual new release costs about 16!!! Frankly, I only got it because the store (media markt) was having a promo on their stock (2+1 free). I know the record industry is diving, but how can the price vary from an average 16 to a 23 euro??? And then you wonder why people don't get cd's anymore. Anyway, great job, hope for the best! Cheers.nondisclosed_email@example.com (purpletemple)Thu, 09 Apr 2015 07:56:40 +0000
