Read his book. Even from that it is rather obvious Gillan's drinking, no matter what is your opinion of it, has nothing to do with Blackmore or anyone else.
It was said by Bruce Payne.... how he felt it.

Really? Can you remember where?
As we know, Gillan told he couldn't remember joining Black Sabbath. It gives an idea of the drinking culture involved.

IG WAS difficult - and he admitted it himself, especially in 2nd half of 80s and I have no problem with that. But he also said that it was his reaction how to deal with RB´s frustrating negativity against almost everything. It definately was wrong way how to do that, but that Ritchie´s negativistic personality is described also by other DP members (Glenn said that Ritchie felt happy when he spoiled happiness and good feelings of others about the show or song), so it´s probably just part of chain of events... Bruce Payne confirmed that IG started to drink too much as reaction to Ritchie´s attitude...
Here we go again. Blackmore is guilty for everything. Nice that the world is so simple.

Re: Glorious Chaos
Didn't Gillan call, in a press Conference, Payne something less wonderful (it could have been 'arsehole'), which cemented his sacking?
So maybe Payne was the reason for Gillan's problems in the latter half of the 1980s and thinking the incident had been forgotten, hence made the clearly untruthful "Blackmore made Gillan drink" comment to Ptr? According to Colin Hart, Payne always sided with Blackmore and that must have not been pleasant for Gillan, as his idea of the band was completely different to Blackmore's.

Ah. Did he talk about Gillan's commentary on him on the press conference I mentioned above? Because that was what got Gillan fired from the band.

I missed that "crazy" at the end of your post.
You think it's completely okay if an adult man with no clothes on (and no other reason for being naked than pleasure) drives his daughter to school - I assume the school has other female pupils as well - and I'm saying crazy things.
I'll give you something to think about. What if a guy in your neighborhood wad doing that and his name was not Ian Gillan? Would you think it was only his business? I'm not going to call you crazy if you say yes. I promise!
Your reply seemed like doubts "Who knows what was happening in Gillan´s family when he was able to do such a thing.... - abused children also protect their parents" and I just wanted to say that I really didnt like that meaning!
Frankly speaking - that name is important aspect - and not regarding IG, but regarding the personality and it´s credibility.
At first - it would depend on my child - would he / she knows about it and is he / she bothered by that?
At second - I suppose that IG have not lived in isolated world - that means that he was probably known to other parents in that school. IG is not anonymous personality and I´m almost sure that there were parents who were bothered by that. I have no problem with them having that problem. I just dont like fast judgement. I have no idea, but I suppose that IG have been good parent (at least I feel that from those interviews with Gillan´s wife and daughter) - so nothing is wrong IMO. If THIS would be done by Dave Holland (for example) I would have huge problem with it and my reaction would be very different. And because of that - my feeling would be also a bit different in case of some uknown guy doing that. If THIS would be done by father of classmate of my child and I would KNOW him and I would know he´s reliable and it´s just one of his eccentricities - I would probably have no issue with that too. It really depends very much on situation.
You will go to ANY length to defend your beloved Ian Gillan it seems? but the fact is that indecent exposure is a criminal offence in the UK Gillan should have been arrested and thats a fact.Whatever habits were the norm at the Gillan family home and whether his daughter cared about him taking her to school bollock naked or not is neither here nor there. If my daughter had been at that school I would have demanded his arrest ,the fact he is somewhat of a celebrity (though I doubt most of the UK general public know Ian Gillan these days) doesn't mean a thing,.what he did was sick and thats an indisputable FACT!!Ritchie Blackmore is well known for being difficult to work with but blaming him for Gillans booze habit is utter nonsense.Gillan is/was a drunk and has been for many many years,As for your assertion that Gillan was a better band member in his own band and didn't dictate the way Ritchie did in Rainbow then ask John McCoy,Bernie Torme,Mick Underwood and Colin Towns about that,he didn't even pay them the money he was due them and ran off to drunkenly join Black Sabbath!! Blackmore and Gillan were BOTH egotistical jerks at times,

The way I remember reading - can't remember the source, maybe Hart covers this in his book - it was that the band were doing a press conference for the last tours of the 1980s - Gillan's last at the time - and the band was asked why is the tour set up like it was (maybe implying the order of the cities was illogical etc.), and Gillan quipped - perhaps refreshed - "because our manager is a ........".
Maybe that was not the only time he said a thing like that about Payne.
