Saratoga

Fantastic amphitheater style venue , high on the western hills above San Jose , in a winery. Fantastic front of an old mission was the back drop to the stage. Blackmore's Knight would be perfect here. Davey Pattison band opened , always liked his voice with Gamma and Trower and the set had a mix of both bands' material. Great band , short set, only 35 mins. Purple weren't quite as on it as Costa Mesa. The reason is a massive screwup in the middle of Lazy where Steve, Don and Roger completely got lost as to where the main riff wss supposed to go and Roger was in a different key as they tried to get back to the end verse. Yikes. The middle part of Space Trucking had a similar screw up with Don getting very mad at Roger and yelling keys at him "E" . Have to play perfect in Los Angeles as all of us musicians are watching . Other than these two screw ups the show was as good as Costa Mesa . Also enjoyed the extended set and addition of the Mule with drum solo and Tokyo. Only the riff of Black Night was played, not the song . I had a fantastic seat, fifth row , which I jumped to the fourth row as there was an empty seat there.

HS into fire hard loving man 4. Strange KWomn. 5. Vincent Price. 6.contact lost solo. 7. Uncommon man wdguitar. Mule Keys solo lazy. Hell pay. 12 Don solo massive PS space trk Sotw hush extended soloing My woman from Tokyo - Steve riff age Bknight abbreviated out

wow!
Changes in the encores!
Woman from Tokyo

Those mess ups sounded bad. Ouch! Should not happen after 40 years. Completely lack of focus?

Re: Saratoga

As I think about it today it was stunning . Like a bad cover band. They nailed those songs last week. Come to think of it, I played a mountain top gig last month and the altitude change affected me a lot and I screwed up songs I've played every week for 9 years and every week this year since April. I felt very light headed too. A little bit less oxygen can change things.

Most people would not notice- we musicians hear everything - believe me lazy- it was a massive screw up . Don yelling the chord E at Roger during Space Trucking , which also got messed up and giving Roger an angry look was also noticeable- really bothered me. Everything was perfect the week before . The guy sitting next to me also noticed the mistakes when I mentioned them. Gillan went and had a little laugh and head shake with Don after Lazy about it and the band were doing the whoops body language all musicians do after mistakes . Also it was fun when Gillan noticed my air keys playing during highway star , nodded at me and started doing it too - that was cool!

Re: Saratoga SUNDAY AUGUST 16TH 2015 . is it on ?

There is an unconfirmed date for Saratoga again on August 16 , 2015 . A SUN. night . The mountain Winery shows another act booked .I'm sure there could be a way for them to bump the act .I hate like hell to go all the way down there .Pay about $200 for a couple tickets .A room , dinner , probably a shuttle up and down the mountain .But I'd hate to miss what could be the last hurrah in the U.S.A. for the band .I don't really expect any of you to know anything , but tell me what you think ....... I contacted a drummer who works with Gamma + , who opened the show last time .I wanted to let him know in case his band could snag the opening spot again. His booking agent made a call to DP management. He was told it was not on the schedule .In looking at the dates ,I see they are in Indio , (near Palm Springs ) on the previous SAT. night. So if they're on a tour bus , it would be a full overnight to get to Saratoga on SUN. Not likely they'd fly for the last show on the U.S. swing . So , not going to happen , too bad .Wish they would take the unconfirmed date off the HS site .
