Re: In Concert (London 1972, BBC) the 2014 release

Where is the proper place for SOTW on this album? In the original 2 CD set (1970/1972), it states the proper order has it as the first encore. This new single CD does not and states it has it in the proper order.

I don't think they did it as an encore back then.

I early 1972 SOTW usually wasn't neither part of the usual set nor of the encores. As strange as this may seem in hindsight. if you listen to the tapes from the other early 1972 shows (e.g. Copenhagen) - no Smoke. So I think they played it at the In Concert show to do a strong promotion of the Machine Head album (the only MH song they didn't do there was Pictures Of Home).

Whether they did it at en encore at the In Concert show - I don't know. I guess they didn't. Their usual encores at that time were older songs: Black Night, Speed King, Lucille. And if they do SOTW to promote the MH album it belongs to the proper set, not to the encores.

Nobody has asked the important question here:

What kind of nirvana does Rezi live in where you can find Deep Purple CDs in the supermarket??? emoticon

One of the grocery store chains here in this podunk, redneck mountain town has a rack of inexpensive dvd's and cd's. One day I was picking through them and they had Deepest Purple and Rainbow from the 20th Century Masters series.

I didn't buy them because there was no point, I was just surprised to see them in the mix emoticon

Is the soundcheck version of Leo included? Looking at it on Amazon it seems like it is...

It is! There a weird vocal in the beginning, as if there was two singers on stage.

The sound quality is excellent, get it guys. No comparison to the 1990s CD.

You forgot to mention the bonus track is incomplete. As for the sound, nothing beats the Japanese K2HD mastering of the original.

"As for the sound, nothing beats the Japanese K2HD mastering of the original."

You mean the Japanese pressing of it in the early 90's?

I was always kinda happy with the release of it with Maybe I am a leo and SOTW then.

Cannot remember being impressed with the 2012 version.

It is confusing.
Is the 2014 the same as the 2012 one?
