In Concert (London 1972, BBC) the 2014 release
I'm just back from a local super market. I passed the music section and what caught my eye? A new release of In Concert 1972!
I didn't buy the Machine Head box set. This is the same 2012 mix that was part of it.
Sounds excellent!

Any major differences that catch your attention right away?

To the 1980 release you mean?
I haven't heard the SACD edition.
The drums and bass sound thunderous in comparison to the original IC. There's more drive. Smoke on the Water is in its correct place in the running order. There's a lot of banter from the DJ than in the original, as is audience shouting, singing etc.
Nice booklet, not spectacular. The sleeve image is the one made for the MH box set.
It's a mid-price release here.

Re: In Concert (London 1972, BBC) the 2014 release
I always thought the sound on the original release (and the mid-90s EMI version) was on the 'thin' side...never really had any 'beef' to it (compared to MIJ). So despite having songs on it they never performed elsewhere, its the reason I don't really listen to it.

Is the soundcheck version of Leo included? Looking at it on Amazon it seems like it is...

It is! There a weird vocal in the beginning, as if there was two singers on stage.
The sound quality is excellent, get it guys. No comparison to the 1990s CD.

Ok, ordered it.
Basically for the Leo soundcheck and the booklet. Great gig, anyway.

I prefer the original (especially the SACD!) - Blackmore is too far back in the mix in this new version.

He is? I didn't notice it, but take your word for it. I just liked the bass end so much.
