Re: All These Years Ago - the photobook

Hi Rezi. It's an awful lot of money to spend. I only bought it because JL co-founded my favorite band and he is my favorite musician. Even with all that I hesitated but my wife finally convinced me to get it or I'd probably regret not buying it later on. The only other musician I'd consider spending that much money on is RB(may he stay healthy for a long time).

Well said, Doggone. I remember buying the Didi Zill photobook and thinking is there any sense in spending all that money for a photobook I'm likely to flip through once in five years, if that. But like you said, regretting not buying it later might be a bigger mistake.

I know several people who regret not buying the 2000 EMI box set as it's now OOP (I just saw an unwrapped copy and almost bought it to sell to a fan looking for it. But I spent my record faire budget and didn't buy it).

I preety much agree with Doggome, I was on the verve of buying it several times and already decided when Celebrating Jon Lord was added for free as i treated it as giveaway for my family and friends. It is not cheap. But I think that a lot of efforts was made to do it properly. Lot of pictures were unknown to me but I do not have other books with purple related pictures. But there are definitely some pictures from Lord family that rather were not seen before. There is quite lot of comments from purple related people telling sort of history of Lord life that are very emotional. I am glad I have it even taking into account the price. They even have comments from people that fall of the radar like eberhard shroeder or Martin Birch.

Thanks doggone, I agree it's probably one to regret if not getting it as they've said this is it for it in book form. So it's this or nothing at all, it seems. They have an interesting looking book about Whitesnake as well, almost as expensive.

Would all those who've bought it so far say it's really worth the heavy price? Are the pictures all previously unseen? I'm still contemplating, shifting from almost doing it to nah and back again. emoticon

I agree the price was initially offputting and I hummed and hawed over buying it or not. But in the end I decided to get it because as a transcript of Jon's life it goes beyond publicity photos and PR spin. This is a very indepth look into Jon's life that very few of us would ever see. When Jon died I felt I'd lost a friend. This book gives me a chance to see beyond the musician and see a bit of the man himself. It's sitting in my display cabinet now on a shelf of its own.
