Perfect Strangers- easily best post-reunion album, production could be better 4/5 2. The Battle Rages On- uneven 2,5/5 3. Slaves and Masters - don't like AOR production, King of Dreams is a great song 2/5 4. Purpendicular - one purple classic SIFLS, otherwise pretty boring 2/5 5. Bananas- half decent 2/5 6. Now What- couple nice moments is not enough 2/5 7. The House of Blue Light- below average 1,5/5 8. Rapture of the Deep -decent title track, mostly junk 0,5/5 9. Abandon - total garbage, poor songwriting 0,5/5nondisclosed_email@example.com (Born Again)Thu, 22 Oct 2015 22:10:43 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493662,from=rss#post493662https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493662,from=rss#post4936621.Perfect Strangers - solid rock classic:] 2.Slaves & Masters - soft rock masterpiece :] 3.The House of Blue Light - ecclectic and modern sounding :] 4.Purpendicular - refined sound and composition :] 5.The Battle Rages On - not the best, but it is THE final swing of Purple:] 6.Now What - nicely revamped sound, alas too slow :] 7.Abandon - heavy as hell :] 8.Bananas - decent debut :] 9.Rapture of the Deep - great songs, poor sound :] nondisclosed_email@example.com (SixtyNine)Thu, 22 Oct 2015 13:38:39 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493661,from=rss#post493661https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493661,from=rss#post4936611. Perfect Strangers 2. Slaves and Masters 3. Now What 4. The Battle Rages On 5. Purpendicular 6. The House of Blue Light 7. Rapture of the Deep 8. Bananas 9. Abandon Slaves and Masters is actually a very good record, full of great ideas. Maybe more into the commercial corner, but amazing songs. Wish that one would get some more attention. nondisclosed_email@example.com (highwayfrog)Thu, 22 Oct 2015 11:40:54 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492584,from=rss#post492584https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492584,from=rss#post4925841. Perfect Strangers. Still the most iconic reunion album with two all-time classics and a bunch of strong songs. Best vocal performance of all reunion albums. 2. Now What?! By far the best Morse-era album. Excellent keyboard work, better SM guitar work and better songwriting (albeit with some flaws) than on the albums before. The only let-down are the vocals. 3. Slaves And Masters. Some interesting songs, decent vocal work, instrumentally one of the better albums. Should have left off Love Conquers All and Too Much Is Not Enough. 4. The Battle Rages On. Two outstanding songs (Anya and the title track), otherwise rather boring - which means that there are just three reunion albums I really like. 5. The House Of Blue Light. Weakest DP cum Blackmore album ever. Trying to sound like the 1980's and failing. 6. Purpendicular. Many interesting ideas, but glued together to songs in a way that doesn't work. But yeah, the freshness SM brought to the band can be heard. 7. Rapture Of The Deep. Listened to it once or twice, since then collecting dust on the shelve. The title track is great, the rest is boring. 8. Bananas. Listened to it once or twice too. The Spanish-sounding song (what was the name ... errm ... Doing It Tonight) is nice. 9. Abandon. Yawn. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Witchy Nightmare)Sat, 22 Aug 2015 20:44:37 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492569,from=rss#post492569https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492569,from=rss#post4925691. Purpendicular The only post reunion album that is right there with the 70s classics (IMO): the song writing is top notch, the energy is there, and the performances are great. You can really feel the new life Morse injected to the band. 2. Perfect Strangers Two absolutely classic songs (PS and KAYBD), some good ones, and then some not so successful ones combined with a production I don't particularly like. Most of the Morse era albums are much more consistent, but PS occupies number two on my list mostly due to the two best songs. 3. Now What 4. Abandon 5. Rapture of the Deep 6. The Battle Rages On 7. The House of Blue Light 8. Bananas 9. Slaves and Masters I still do not like this album. Bland, uninspired, I do not like JLT's sound. Some good Blackmore solos cannot save it. Too Much is Not Enough might just be the worst song DP ever recorded. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Niko Vidgren)Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:37:41 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492512,from=rss#post492512https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492512,from=rss#post492512I just heard Strangers, Purpendicular and Now What?! in this order... and I must say that I really think that Now What?! is best one from them and then - it´s really really difficult to decide - I would call it as tie. nondisclosed_email@example.com (ptr)Tue, 18 Aug 2015 15:11:36 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492412,from=rss#post492412https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492412,from=rss#post4924121. Perfect Strangers (no explanation needed) 2. The Battle Rages On (great album ruined only by the vocalist) 3. The House Of Blue Light (not as many great songs on the whole as on PS but a lot of amazing ideas and great energy in the playing. And it sounds like Deep Purple, not Diet Pink) 4. Slaves And Masters (a very consistent and quality record, some say it's Rainbow or not DP, hogwash, it's more DP than what came after 93, tunes like FITB, TCD and WW establish that clearly. Only two weak songs on here really. Great playing (and production) all around and the singer doesn't ruin it! JLT is far superior to Gillan since 93 and to this day) 5. Rapture Of The Deep (sue me but I like this one the best from the Diet Pink era. Production sucks but I think the songs groove, have some great riffs/hooks and there's like 6 songs in a row I never skip) 6. Bananas (some s**t songs, some great songs. the great ones, like ST, make the album pretty decent) 7. Purpendicular (meh, massively overrated by some IG/SM cultists, the production is great but the songs are a mixed bag, most of them are actually quite bland and the whole album lacks a certain DP spark. Also the guitar player kinda sucks, in more ways than one) 8. Now What?! (pretty much my reaction after listening through it, would say the same as on the Purp, but the singer and drummer are not as good on this one. The guitar player still hasn't improved or learned to play/write good hard rock) 9. Abandon (utter garbage, sounds like a third rate grunge band trying to do a more hard rock inspired album but failing. speaking of grunge bands like Soungarden were putting out much better heavy rock than this s**t!)nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jimmy Rustles)Sat, 15 Aug 2015 11:25:32 +0000 Re: Post-Reunion Albumshttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492407,from=rss#post492407https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p492407,from=rss#post4924071. If, just if it was made in 84 (on PS) or 93 on TBRO (with Mk2 lineup) it would become new Smoke On The Water - but it would want different lyrics, different sound (much heavier) and slightly different song structure - not so repetitive....
