totally forgettable melody and the guitar tones had my teeth on edge.

to class that as a tribute is taking the piss.

Re: Song for Jon
I think to call it "awful" is a bit strong, the guy put a fair bit of work in.
But, I think that a tribute to Mr Lord should really have the Hammond B3 up-front. There was some KB's going on but way back in the mix, and it didnt sound like B3 patch.
The guitar soloing was a little primitive. Very 1970's Uriah Heep. Needs to more a bit of work on technique to make it sound more legato. Also, explore some notes outside of the blues box shapes man!

The song is the most important entity. I choose to do a very simple melody and solo, not some over melodramatic stuff. Drums are simple too. I never was in the game of impressing people with my playing, also im a drummer, not really a guitar player.....Of course the guy is taking the piss with the awful stuff. I have no problem with people not liking my stuff, but some comments are just nasty.....
Anyway, the hammond is on the back cause i cant play it LOL. And it is a hammond, or the closest i can get.
Its just a humble tribute.

Re: Song for Jon
I think it's pretty good. It has essences of Blackmore in it, and it has a memorable feel to it. I don't care that it isn't keyboard heavy, since everyone can express their tribute to Jon in a different way. It starts off a bit like Whitesnake's forevermore, then goes into a something Ritchie might jam. Not only that, but the song gets more interesting as it progresses and picks up with the soloing toward the end. Cool. I bet Jon would have liked it.

Well I would put it more mildly but I have to agree with this. It's a nice thought to do a tribute to Jon but a nice thought doesn't make it sound good. But for a beginner/amateur it's passable I say, uncreative and unskilled playing aside. It also lacks emotion that any proper tribute to Jon needs.
