Clive Carroll - Sixth Sense (1999)
1 One **
2 Southbound **
3 Passacaglia **
4 Promise of Spring ***
5 Secrets **
6 Clonlara **
7 Aerial Discoveries ***
8 Lost Innocence **
9 Marylebone Lane **
10 Loch Nagcaor **

Album score: 29.7
Despite the low score, I would still recommend this highly to anyone who appreciates good guitar playing. It's a masterclass in fingerstyle guitar and if I was rating on technical ability this album would get five stars. But it suffers the same problem a lot of solo instrumental albums have -- the music is beautiful, but it all blurs together and very little of it is memorable after it has finished.

Bob Catley - The Tower (1998)
1 Dreams ****
2 Scream ****
3 Far Away ****
4 Deep Winter ***
5 Fire and Ice ****
6 Madrigal ****
7 Steel ****
8 The Tower ****
9 Fear of the Dark ****
10 Epilogue (Instrumental) ***
Album score: 70.0
I'm not sure if Bob deliberately set out to make an album that sounded just like classic mid-period Magnum, but that's exactly what this is. Naturally this rockets straight into the top 10.

Bob Catley - Live at the Gods (1999)
1 Dreams ***
2 Scream ****
3 Far Away ****
4 Deep Winter ***
5 Lonely Night ****
6 Fire and Ice ***
7 On a Storyteller's Night ****
8 The Tower ***
9 Fear of the Dark ****
10 Just Like an Arrow ****
Album score: 65.0
The recording doesn't really capture the atmosphere that a Bob Catley gig has, so it doesn't score as highly as it should do. A nice album but for completists only I think.

Bob Catley - Legends (1999)
1 The Pain **
2 Shelter from the Night ***
3 Carpe Diem ****
4 Tender is the Night ***
5 Medusa **
6 Hydra ***
7 A Beautiful Night for Love ****
8 Too Late ***
9 The Light **
10 Where the Heart Is ****
Album score: 50.0
It's more of the same really, and Bob sounds a soog as ever. But the songs don't have the same hooks that made The Tower outstanding. This is just... ok.

Re: My personal album chart
Bob Catley - Middle Earth (2000)
1 The Wraith of the Rings ***
2 The Fields That I Recall - Emissary - The Fields That I Recall ***
3 City Walls ****
4 Against the Wind ****
5 Where You Lead I'll Follow - Stormcrow and Pilgrim - Where You Lead I'll Follow ***
6 Return of the Mountain King ***
7 The End of Summer (Galadriel's Theme) ***
8 This Gallant Band of Manic Strangers **
9 The Fellowship ****
Album score: 55.6
It's nice to see some more complex song writing, but it doesn't always work out. It's an album with some great moments that feels like it out to be better than it is.

Chain - Eros of Love and Destruction (1997)
1 Don't Waste Your Time *
2 Absence of Angels **
3 Shame ***
4 Fake it Big Time *
5 Streets Cry Freedom ***
6 Single Life ***
7 Hellfire **
8 What About Me **
9 I.N.M **
10 Blind Faith *
11 State of Independence ***
Album score: 27.3
Dougie White has a great voice but these songs are a bit too heavy metal, and that's not where my tastes lie. Stand-out tracks are the more subtle ones that show off the versatility of Dougie's voice. As for the rest... well, if you're a Guns n' Roses fan who wished they'd had a decent singer, you will probably love this album.
