Saori Jo - Home 2.17 A.M. (2010)

1 Love is Just Another Word ***
2 Teenage Girl ***
3 Stay ***
4 Fairy World ****
5 Dance Little Girl ***
6 Doll's Revolution ***
7 Hide and Die ***
8 Run Away **
9 Divine Madness **
10 Bitter Complaint ****
11 Fellow Travellers **
12 The Old Boat is Sinking ***
13 Witch's Promise ****
14 Fairy World (Live) ****

Album score: 51%

A mixed bag, some beautiful songs and some that don't quite work for me. 51% seems like a fair score.

The Shee - A Different Season (2008)

1 Tom Paine's Bones ****
2 Ohma ***
3 Lady Margaret ****
4 Chilly Winds ***
5 Happy Halloween ***
6 MacCrimmon's *****
7 Here I Am ****
8 Drunken Duck ***
9 Ged Is Grianach ***
10 Summer's Promise **
11 Dancing on the Wireless ***

Album score: 59%

This is one of those albums where its diversity is its strength so it should get a higher score than the sum of its parts have given it. But placing comfortably mid-way between 2112 and Roxy Music is still quite an achievement for the debut album from a modern band.

The Shee - Decadence (2010)

1 Troubles ***
2 Shotgun ***
3 Vandy Vandy ***
4 Hand Ba' Breakdown ****
5 Eppie Morrie ***
6 Pipers and Polys ***
7 Morning Star **
8 Purit ****
9 Meltdown ***
10 Room to Breathe ***
11 Sugar and Pie ****

Album score: 54%

An enjoyable album, but a slight slip from their debut.

This gives me enough albums to do a top 10 chart:

1. Rainbow - Live in Germany 1976 (92)
2. Rainbow - Rising (87)
3. Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (80)
4. Rush - 2112 (66)
5. The Shee - A Different Season (59)
6. The Shee - Decadence (54)
7. Roxy Music - Roxy Music (52)
8. Saori Jo - Home 2.17 A.M. (51)
9. Kirstine Sand - Det dansend par (50)
10. Eric Roche, the Perculator (29)

Will anything ever knock Rainbow off the #1 spot? (Hint: I haven't done Deep Purple yet emoticon )

he Shee - Murmurations (2012)

1 Down in the Broom ***
2 Starlings ***
3 Three Knights ****
4 Northern Frisk ***
5 Our Bottle ****
6 Strut ***
7 Pity Me ****
8 Highlands and Flatlands ****
9 Sugarwine ***
10 Inge's ***
11 An Till Mise Chaoidh ****

Album score: 61%

Definitely their strongest album so far, I would instinctively place this immediately above A Different Season -- and that's how it's worked out, which gives me confidence that my rating methodology is working properly.

Stuart Smith - Heaven and Earth (1999)

1 Don't Keep Me Waiting ***
2 Heaven & Earth ****
3 See That My Grave Is Kept Clean ****
4 When a Blind Man Cries ****
5 Memories ***
6 Dreams of Desire (Instrumental) ****
7 Trouble in Paradise ***
8 Shadow of the Tyburn Tree ****
9 It's Got To Be Love **
10 When The Blues Catch Up With You ***
11 Do You Ever Think Of Me? ***
12 Road to Melniboné (Instrumental) ****
13 Howlin' at the Moon ***
14 Telstar 2000 (Instrumental) ***
15 Lose my Number ***

Album score: 58%

A bit too much filler brings down the album score, but there are some great songs here that deserved a wider audience. Rainbow fans will love this!

Stuart Smith - Windows to the World (2001)

1 Dogs of War **
2 World's Apart ***
3 If Only Love **
4 Jade **
5 Broken Arrow ****
6 Prisoner **
7 Away from Harm **
8 Through Your Eyes ***
9 Windows to the World **
10 Politician **
11 Years Gone By ****
12 (Untitled) ***

Album score: 39%

Well, what a huge difference. Smith drops the idea of using guest musicians and with it loses the diversity of songs that made Heaven and Earth great, ending up with an album of very generic hard rock saved only by some brief flashes of guitar brilliance.

Simon Snaize - The Structure of Recollection (2012)

1 that which opens closes ****
2 the brightest day ***
3 fireflies ***
4 sunflower ***
5 light on the boundary ***
6 gnossus ****
1 tied to the mast *****
2 mayflower dance ****
3 angels ****
4 the very last waltz ***
5 clear light ****

(Yes, the track numbering does go like that; it's an album of two halves)

Album score: 65%

Beautiful, moody, introspective collection of acoustics songs from guitar player Simon Snaize. Highly recommended (and not just because Heather Findlay sings half of it).

Stolen Earth - A Far Cry From Home (2012)

1 Unnatural Disaster **
2 Soul in a Jar ****
3 My Lips Are Too Dry ****
4 Mirror Mirror ***
5 Into the Virgin Snow ***
6 Tuscany Sun ****
7 Bitterness Fades ***
8 Silver Skies ****
9 Perfect Wave ****

Album score: 61.1%

A fine collection of intelligent rock songs. It remains to be seen whether the band can equal this debut after a round of line-up changes.

I've had to include a decimal place in the album score calculation to separate this from the Shee's Murmurations! (This one is 0.3% lower.)

Terraplane - Black and White (1985)

1 Don't Walk Away **
2 When You're Hot **
3 I Can't Live without Your Love ***
4 Talking To Myself ****
5 You Can't Hurt Me Anymore **
6 I Survive **
7 Right Between The Eyes ***
8 Black and White **
9 I'm The One **
10 Get Your Face Out Of My Dream **
11 Couldn't Handle The Tears ***
12 Tough Kind Of Life **
13 Beginning Of The End **
14 All Night And Day (Live) **

Album score: 33.9%

While you can see glimmerings of the great band they would become, this effort from proto-Thunder is pretty basic 80s' rock. Gets into my top 20 only because I haven't reviewed 20 albums yet ;-)

Black and White would have been a great album but it's too long and over produced. I Survive is an excellent song but too many 80s production tricks hamper it.
