Re: Which type of Purple live shows do you prefer?
I like the current format with more songs, I agree that you really have to be on drugs to sit through a near half-hour jam without falling asleep.
However, this has been said a lot recently but.....it's all well and good playing more songs but it would be really nice if they didn't play the same songs over and over again and actually kept SIFLS in the setlist for more than 2 shows every third tour.
I think you could say that I like the current format better but they've haven't made it interesting for quite some time now, at least with jams you heard something new every time.

Hey Brian
I hope you don't think by no brainer that I prefere
the current.
However I do fancy the consistancy and loyalty
of a bad show being much rarer do to the fact that
the mood king is no longer with them.

Re: Which type of Purple live shows do you prefer?
I definetly prefer the 70s style live shows with those long jams over todays shows with really short versions of the songs. For example, on the american release of CHOHW there is a version of Space Truckin' which is only 2.39 long. Compare that to the 70s versions which could be up to half an hour long.

Re: Which type of Purple live shows do you prefer?
i prefer the later version of show ,only wish the
concert tickets for up front where cheaper... how about a current style concert with seventies tickets prices ,remember seeing the guys in Australia at the sunbury rock festival for only 18 dollars ,now last tour front row ,etc ...@$120.. and they tell me the next visit will be over $180,,why? Why so costly?

The most I ever paid was $90.00 for Long Beach 85
and 100.00 for Irvine Meadow's 87.
They stopped all that here in the U.S. quite some time ago.
Damn Ticket Bastard's.

That's the beauty of it. Taking risks. Taking your instrument to new places. I love the extended jams. You get to hear 4 (I'll not include the singer) of rock's finest musicians expressing themselves on their respective instruments, taking the song to new levels.
I love the jams. They never sound the same with repeated listenings. There's always something there happening, that I ain't noticed before!

Re: Which type of Purple live shows do you prefer?
I like the kind of show where it sounds like they know where they're going...Impro or not.In the 70's, they were the masters of impros, so that was great! It started to get weird with the Hughes funk whoooooooops...
In the 80's, they were doing less impros and the so-called impros they were doing, sounded more like they HAD to be done (SKOW,ST).That's my least fav Live period(plus the sound wasn't that great).
Since Morse is in the band, they have a good compromise between structure and impros, especially since the Abandon Tour. The current tour still siounds a bit "stiff", I think some songs have to develop and they probably will (bananas, doing it tonight, Knockin',...).
So my fav years are the 70's Mark II and beginning of Mark III and since Abandon.
