I still listen to ?! everyday.
For me the songs are way superior to the RoTD songs, only Before Time Began and Kiss Tomorrow goodbye were better tracks.
Don't get me wrong, I like RotD, but ?! is way better.
Thing is, when "A simple song" pops up on my player, I just HAVE to listen to the entire album. I find it impossible to stop it and put another record in the player.
This said, I have much more time to give to the music than I had 8 years ago.
Agree with all but the last!

Re: ?!
I got the same amount of time, and I conclude that ?! is far better than ROTD...
And better than Bananas.
And better than Abandon.
And better than Purpendicular. Even.

Another lucky man!
The foremost thing about NW is the production, which is awesome - the only time it becomes a bit too much is the chorus of HTP. A bit juveline, if you don't mind!
I believe your experience of NW is not unlike what I had with ROTD - I couldn't stop playing it. Evertime the riff to the title track began, I knew I was going to be spending an hour doing nothing else... rapture indeed!

Re: ?!
Absolutely love NW?!. From the first listen I was hooked. I didn't feel that with RotD or Bananas at all. Took me a few listens with Bananas and I still haven't warmed up to RotD. Its my favorite since _|_

Re: ?!
Strike three - or was it a home run?
God I miss the school days: buying an album and after school, you raced home to play it, again and again, only interrupted by ice hockey practice (nice) and your parents asking you if you hade done your homework (not nice).
Otherwise, it's nice to be an adult...

Re: ?!
I agree that Rapture and Bananas could be as good as ?! had Ezrin produced it. The basic songs are not *that* different.
But remember that Ezrin does far more than mixing and providing the hifi experience. He pushes the band to be better, change melodies, arrangements and lyrics. ?! has more of a vision and direction, as i hear it, than the two (or four) previous records.
PLUS the sound is lightyears better. Rapture and Bananas sound very bad, to be a international band. I still don't understand why. I remember writing lots of posts about it back then...
Thats all sorted with ?!.. And I'm happy!

Re: ?!
Rapture and Bananas are much to sprawling for me, ?! is much more coherent.
Bananas could be a great album minus three songs or so.
