Re: Opeth

I'm personally glad they've left the distorted guitars and growling vocals behind. It had grown old. This is much better and PC is a big improvement over Heritage as well.

Bought it today: what a disc! I wouldn't mind a few more recognisable returning choruses every now & then but I guess this is part of their charm: you have to really enter their world to appreciate every colour as they are not gonna take you with easy hooks. Top quality album.

Re: Opeth

I like Opeth's cover of Soldier of Fortune, and I know they also have a cover that looks like DP's cover for Concerto for Group and Orchestra. Exactly how much is Opeth influenced by DP and do they sound a lot like DP? How does Opeth compare to DP?

Re: Opeth

They name drop Purple quite a bit and Mikael talks mentions Ritchie as an influence when the question comes up.

Re: Opeth

To be honest you'd be hard pressed to pick out an obvious Purple influence in their sound, apart from Slither from Heritage which has Dio-Rainbow written all over it, but it's an obvious pastiche.

Michael Akerfeldt has been mentioning this soundtrack for a Netflix series that he's been working on but on the first trailer I tend to recognize a familiar noise...

Love this series absolut Clark Olofsson, Swedens probably most known criminal. With a lot of warmth and humor Jonas Akerlund paints a hysterical rock n roll story about Clark and his life. Great soundtrack indeed!
