I think not emoticon

Another song from the new album. Eternal Rains Will Come.

Think this album is going to be pretty good!

Re: Opeth

Opeth are a lot like Metallica in the way that their fans are divided; old fans don't like the new direction, meanwhile they have a whole new group of fans that have come in since Watershed...

As far as Opeth goes, I'm in the new camp. With Metallica, I'm definitely the old emoticon

Re: Opeth

The new album is very good, but they lost their originality by abandoning their "death" side.

"Watershed" was a perfect mix of genres.

They were something different, now they're just another prog band.

I'm not a big fan of the death metal/cookie monster vocals though...that's my only issue with the early stuff. When he isn't doing that, I really like them.

Re: Opeth

Damnation from 2003 was a very mellow record, so this is nothing new actually. But apart from this one you're right, the "new" opeth (since heritage) is quite different from the "old" one. I like them both very much, because they are great in both worlds!

Metallica died in the early 90's, from then on they only released crap, so IMHO you can't compare these bands. Opeth just moved on an changed their style while Metallica lost everything...

I agree with this completely. My favorite album by them.

Only have played the new album a couple times. It is a good album, but definitely well off into prog land and not a growling vocal to be heard anywhere. I keep waiting for the heavy stuff to kick in but there is no heavy stuff. I think I need a mental adjustment to the new sound, it just doesn't seem like Opeth to me.

That said, I am seeing them play in December, and I am exceited, never seen them before. Hopefully they mix it up with the old stuff some.
