Re: CalJam question....
Ritchie payed dearly for smashing that camera. KLOS which is the Radio Station owned by ABC, from that point on took out the lead Ritchie played on a least one of his songs. It was insane, imagine taking the lead from Stairway to Heaven out of that song. They did it for years as punishment for our dearest Ricardo for smashing their precious camera.

Re: CalJam question....
Larry you got that right too, 60 Grand for that camera but I think Purple made 500,000 thousand for appearing, somebody correct if I am wrong. Ritchie of course probably has that much in his pocket right now as we speak.

Re: CalJam question....
Well, sorry for misleading anybody - it took Snakehead to point out to me that as my version of the vid is exactly the same as his, and he's got the camera-smashing I should have it too. Sooooo, I dig out the video, go to the appropriate part of Space Truckin', and guess what? There it is.

that was the origonal broadcast airing.
I'm speaking of the in concert friday late night tv program
which was edited.

That's the program I'm speaking of also. But like I said, it's been 30 years now, though I still think that Purple's (nearly) entire set was aired. Ah, well, we'll probably never know...
I've tried all sorts of web searches via ABC + various ways of looking it up, even trying to find archival listings from TV Guide which were pretty good at having the set lists in their little descriptives of the concerts. Maybe someone can do a more thorough search so we'll have something more reliable than 30 year old memories to go by.

ABC ran a series of four TV shows of highlights from the California Jam. The first show provided an overview of the day with a track by each of the eight bands. Purple were represented by a nine-minute edit of "Space Truckin'".
The second show included footage of Purple's arrival, together with "Burn", "Might Just Take Your Life", "Smoke On The Water" and "You Fool No One", most of which were edited, plus Sabbath tracks.

I was just going to say the same thing. I've got the BBC VHS original too and definitely have the full Space Truckin' wreckage.
