John Lennon plays Corporal Gripweed in Richard Lester's vicious satire How I Won the War (1967).

Really? I didn't know that. Which films? I mean I could Google it, but that wouldn't be fun.

Bon Jovi was in:
Pay it forward.
U-571.
And a couple TV shows (Ally McBeal,...)

Also Billy Ray Cyrus (Mullholland drive)-again not really a rocker, I know.

Elvis...

Jimi Hendrix appears (and plays a too short but great concert, as well as appears on the soundtrack) in otherwise completely forgettable hippie romp Rainbow Bridge (1972).

The Rutles (1978): George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon and some others, some of them in cameos, appear in Eric Idle's the Beatles parody / satire.

Yeah, but he counts here. The division between rock, pop, blues, country, soul etc. isn't important here. I just used "rock" in the thread title. It could have just as well been "popular musicians". People who first became known for their careers in popular music, not the other way around (i.e. actors who cut a record).

Desperatly Seeking Susan (1985): Madonna plays the title character.

Elvis, indeed!
