Films with rock musicians
After writing about a DVD I bought I thought I'd start a topic about feature films which have rock musicians as either actors, performing music, or in cameos in general.
I'll start with three examples:
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (1983): David Bowie plays the lead.
The Loveless (1982); rockabilly singer Robert Gordon plays one of the central characters, and is heavily featured on the soundtrack.
Twins (1988): Jeff Beck, Terry Bozzio, Nicolette Larson play in the band on stage in a bar in one scene.

Another one:
Water (1985): Jon Lord, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and some other musicians are members of a band seen playing in the film.

Blow-Up (1966): The Yardbirds play in a London club. Beck trashes his guitar (he said he did it unwillingly, the director insisted).

Re: Films with rock musicians
Christiane F - a German film based on a true story about a young female drug taker, who eventually gets hooked on heroin (abb. H) and is lured into street prostitution by her already H addicted boyfriend, Detlef - simply to feed her daily expensive habit. Several of her friends in the film (and book) overdose to their deaths, most notably a 14 year old girl named Babbette (Babs), whose reported death prompted her to give up Heroin for good - but not until she'd unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide by deliberately overdosing herself and because her parents moved her away from Berlin's drug scene.
David Bowie provides all of the music to the film, which is played throughout as incidental music, disco tracks and he also appears as a cameo guest performing at a Berlin gig.

Re: Films with rock musicians
Bob Dylan has a fine film pedigree:
'Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid'
'Renaldo and Clara'
'Hearts of Fire' (actually shockingly bad)
'Masked and Anonymous'
Plus docs 'Don't Look Back' and 'Eat The Document' (never officially released).
--- 'I'm off to Barrow Gurney to see my brother Ernie'

Ha, I never knew that. That's brilliant
Keith Richards was in the last Pirates of the Cabbibean film, and I saw him in the trailer for the next one too (he gets a very funny line in the trailer, which I won't spoil :P )
