Re: Don Ariey
Don Airey is much more than a great musician. I saw him some years ago playing with the Italian DP-Tribute-Band "Perfect Strangers" and Don proved what a great entertainer he is too. I met him after a few gigs, he´s really a nice person, very down to earth, a person you like at once. I saw him playing with DP in Osnabrück 2006, when the hammond organ and the keys on the top of the hammond wouldn´t work during "Things I never said" and the rest of the show. With each song afterwards he had to decide wether to play it on the piano or the synthesizer. We got unbelieveble new versions: A piano-version of "Lazy", a synthesizer-version of "Fireball" for example. What a fantastic improviser he is.
By the way, listening to this version of "Hard lovin man" reminded me, why I became a fan of DP and still am. It was never Ritchie´s guitar sound or Gillan´s voice, nor Paiceys drumming or Roger´s bass playing - although I like them all - it was alone the sound of the hammond. And I´m quite sure: nobody else than Don could have followed Jon.
Listening to "Hard lovin man" nearly makes me regret not having visited DP during the current tour, but Jon Lord playing "Sarabande" completely plus a lot of his solo-stuff and old DP-tunes - I couldn´t afford both. But then again, it was an unforgettable, unbelievingly good evening with Jon. I only hope,I can catch Don going solo very soon, too.
Both are exceptional artists. And last but not least: Listen to the keyboards on "Rapture": Aren´t they the best you have heard on a DP-album for a long time?

Re: Don Ariey
Friedhelm, I agree. While Glover has become a more varied bass player after RB left, Airey is, for me, the most interesting single player of the current band. His playing on ROTD is both solid and innovative, and in general, he has done a fantastic job. He has certainly proved to be the right choice for the job!
