I don't think the listed "reasons" are really covering the issue good enough.
Many of us are complete strangers of very varying ages from different countries yes even from different continents. And then we communicate in writing only. Unlike face to face, or voice to voice conversation where you have 1-2 more dimensions to play on and relate to.
What is cool where some come from, certainly isn't cool where others come from, or, by their age. There are/were users on this board, who could have their grandchild as active user as well!
Mix all of this together with different temper and personality, then you will soon realise, that without "censorship", it's almost doomed to fail to have a board of rock fans to do "unmoderated" discussions under civil behaviour.
Look at what happens Friday evening in the pubs/bars/streets. And there people have both voice and bodily/facial expressions to work with.

I don't think the lack of things happening has anything to do with the quarrels at all. They have been here since I joined the fan community somewhen around '98 or '99. Anyone remember "Tom & Jerry", or "TJ" as he was later called? Though, he was mostly going after the band members. And as Mr. Stephens wrote, he also got some trouble on THS back then.
Now there are so many DP related boards, and a lot of those regular posters has left, leaving a good deal of the posts to the mere quarral/trolling. So in numbers of posts of that kind, I don't actually think it has increased that much, it just seems the noise has the power at the moment. Not because of nothing to write about, but because of so few regular posters having so little to contribute with.
And, some of those left, just can't stand each other. If they met face to face, either would one of them run away with the tail between the legs, or it would end up in a fight or worse. Just as simple as that.
Some of you would say, nah, that can't happen through a internet forum. I say yes it can. People can drive other people to commit suicide via the internet, and even live stream it!
I shall not make myself any better than I am, I have also participated in stupid name throwing, though I also did contribute, maybe not in the way some had hoped, but eh opinions differ, and life taught me:
"Do not turn the other cheek, or you will be hit twice".
Just my 0.02€

That's certainly true, but are there any boards comparable to this one, with a similar discussion value content wise? Those I have seen either suppress free speech, or are flooded with people who prefer substanceless blabbering to subject-oriented discussion, or they are virtually private boards with five or ten people participating regularly. If this board would close, I wouldn't have an idea where to go instead.

I do not know. I only visit one other board now and then. I am not that active internet board wise anymore.
On the old THS the expertise were there, some came over here when this was created instead, and some went back to THS, partially or completely when it was revamped.
And pre THS there were the real experts on usenet at alt.music.deep-purple, which were ruined by a handfull of trolls. I haven't checked out amdp for some years now.
If I remember right, then there are a handful of yahoo mailing lists with serious debate, but I am not into that stuff either......anymore.
Furthermore, I do not follow this board regularly so I cannot compare it to other boards.
