Quarrels
Threads are more and more destroyed of fights and stupidity, quarrels and "you are so stupid" stuff. A lot of these posts are not in any way relevant for the topic/ Purple/ music or anything else than personal attacks. Some with a bit of humor, some not.
How about just erasing that kind of negativity and fights? At least if the post does not contain anything else than fx attacs on a fellow posters intelligence or sanity?

Re: Quarrels
A good question Eirik.
I'm not actually sure if you are making an appeal to posters in general, or to staff to edit out the crap. In the case of latter being your point, I wrote about this when asked in a topic just a while ago. I quote it here. Key points in bold:
Well, that last time I tried to tighten the policy the same people who were wanting that after a while were asking a more permissive policy "because the bickering and the insults are actually fun". True story.
The problem is not the bickering itself, it is that the same people flood every other topic with the same personal rubbish. Plus, it seems many people are willing to make "a joke" but just cannot take one.
Further, I, or everyone else of the staff, don't have time to moderate every topic, every day: there are people here to spout the same rubbish in 5 different topics at the same time. To edit out that crap from actual discussion just takes too much time. Can you believe some posters actually deliberately get into petty fights and then ask me to edit out all the bits they don't like?
As some people clearly cannot control themselves, just to ban some of them would be the easiest way. Let's see.
This is just a hobby for us. The minute we start getting paid for it we'll consider it a job.

Re: Quarrels
I think there's a problem about this for which neither the board users nor the staff aren't to blame: There's nothing happening with the band (except that they're endlessly touring which they've done for 15 years or whatever), so there's no real input to be discussed here. (The fact that Blackmore's Night or other DP spin-offs keep releasing albums doesn't really change this, as their output doesn't interest the majority.) And when there's no interesting topics to talk about, the people start those flames, just to fight their boredness.
I'm sure that if there was, for example, a line-up change in DP, there would be loads of content-oriented discussions immediately. Certainly there still would be some flames, but they would mainly vanish behind the content-oriented discussions and hardly bother anyone.
Another point is that there seem to be some people here who simply can't stand contradiction. They want to praise their heroes, and if someone else refuses the join the praise, they're upset. Those people should remember that this is not a friendship book here but a discussion forum, and a discussion forum is made, among other purposes, to give place for discussions about contradicting opinions.
Whether the board staff plan to change their board policy is their decision, I take a neutral point of view concerning that. Generally I think we have to live with these things mentioned in the opening entry as long as there's nothing happening with the band for whose fans this board has been made.

It might be the band's fault that nothing is happening, but it's the users' faults that they are coming to a forum about a band that aren't doing anything worth talking about. Why do these people even bother? They must know before they log on that the band is doing nothing new, so the only reason they come here now is to argue. Arguing has become their hobby and the band is irrelevant.

There's certainly some truth about that, but that means that the quarrels mentioned in the opening entry aren't worth thinking about because there's no valid reason to visit this board anyway.
Myself I'm here to watch how DP fans deal with the fact that there's nothing happening with the band.

...Yes. I guess this first of all was a appeal to the posters. And of course it's not easy to moderate every post like that.
So let's just hope people start to behave. Do posters get 'warnings' btw? Cause if things do not change, maybe it's time to ban people... But lets hope not. A warning might do wonders..

I got my first "last" warning in 2003 or 2004 on the HS forum. And just after a two week suspension from Doug was asked to be a moderator, much to Fat Larrys chagrin.
I got my last "last warning" just a couple of weeks ago.
You can ban all of the people you want and what your left with is a select few who have the same opinions on just a select few topics and then the forum dies due to boredom and everyone licking the bands boots as they continue to listen to all of the YES men. That has been the problem with this band since Blackmore left. Everyone is a YES man and that's the only people they listen to. Everyone has a different way of expressing themselves but I don't see any trolls on this forum at the moment. People seem to associate trolls with anyone with a differing opinion to their own. I have never accused anyone here of being a troll. A troll would be if I were here and had no clue as to what the band is or was about and couldn't contribute at all other than slagging the band or the forum members. Everyone who is left here has an opinion and although we may slag each other for our opinions and ways of expressing them, I would not consider anyone here a troll or if I were still a moderator, ban anyone for being a troll. We all can make our own choices on what we read and if we see someone whom we don't care for, we can ignore it. If you see my name as the last poster in a thread, you have the choice to ignore it. If you read and comment on it, you are feeding into it.
A troll would be someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the topic at hand and just spews obscenities and degrading rubbish at the band, topic or posters. Without differing opinions this world would be a Utopia, and Blackmore would become Wotts Stepford guitarist as would the band. However that's not the case. If clowns like Gillan,Glover,Lord and Paice can badmouth one of their own, then why should we, as caring fans, be exempt. As most of us can see, just about everyone left here spends a lot of time arguing their points back and forth. There, just like some of the band members, is some childish name calling but as I said before, if you can't deal with it, don't get involved. I have never asked any moderator to tell someone to cool it after getting involved in a match, but I do know of a few who have and often wondered why they got involved in the first place. It's an old cliche, but if you can't handle the heat, don't stick your head up her woo-ha.

Thanks for comments, Eirik.
Yes, posters do get warnings. It never changes the behaviour of a person but for a little while. See Brian's reply above.

Re: Quarrels
S5: Different opinions is what most of us are here for, I hope. The ones that dislikes Morse, the ones that love his playing - Gillan, old or young etc.
The problems begins first when a discussion is no longer about any of that, but a fight about how poster express themselves. Like 'you called me a (insert bad word)' so 'you should go home and die' stuff. Disagreement re: music is lightyears away.
Of course that is something one should ignore, but too often what happens is that if a thread becomes longer than 20 posts, that stuff is what you get - it's no longer about music. Its about...boring word violence.
Ok, I'm exaggerating the situation a bit here, but it's just to make my point clear:-)
