Useful Stuff
I thought I'd start a new sticky topic where people can post useful stuff, inc. links to good articles on gear etc.
I start with this nice piece on two popular vintage-style MXR pedals (Carbon Copy & Phase 90).

Re: Useful Stuff
Mojotone's tips on guitar maintenance and tone-ups. The tech I use linked this guy so he has to be good. The link's to a Strat PU polepiece upgrade, but there are others as well.

Re: Useful Stuff
Dawk Stillwell worked for Ritchie Blackmore, as well as for Deep Purple, for years. His site, including a discussion forum inc. many things on Blackmore's gear, inc. Dawk's MTC device:
Dawk Sound Ltd.
Our mate Mijf's shop, inc. lots of Blackmore related as well as Blackmore themed equipment (inc. Dawk's MTC rivalling RBTC) plus, like the name suggests, Japanese Fender guitars:

Re: Useful Stuff
Here's the ubiquitious RBTC in action again!
RBTC Sound Samples on YouTube
As always the RBTC still does 100% exactly what it was designed to do and it's still as audible as ever, despite it's many doubters.
The slideshow which accompanies the clip might prove interesting to "gear" fans, as it contains a few things "Blackmore related" and even the odd surprise!

Re: Useful Stuff
This topic is supposed to be about good gear links, so let's not drag the MTC debate into it! All the "experts" claim there is something "special" inside the MTC that makes Blackmore's sound. It's patently obvious that such a statement is simply abject nonsense and owes more to the "experts" own desire to own a "Blackmore device", than to their knowledge of the subject, actual commonsense or any reality! Good luck to them, "experts" they might be, BUT clever they sure ain't and the very few of them who actually have an MTC( most of them don't!) are $350 down on the deal! Enough of that sh1te, it's pointless, like the MTC!
For those who want to try the ENGL range there's the new GIGMASTER series. A 15 Watt Combo and a 15 Watt head and cab setup. Both amps feature a "powr soak" allowing th amp power to be reduced to 5 watts, 1 watt and 0 watts for recording. This little amps offer a full 15 watts of ALL valve power and they sound absolutely fabulous. The usual combination of just your guitar, cable and one of these amps will give you the classic ENGL sound. At 15 Watts they are great as a bedroom amp and having played 5 or 6 gigs with one I can tell yu they work perfectly in a live environment, living up to their name as "GigMasters". They are cheap as well, weighing in at around the £500-600 mark depending on option choosen. So for anyone wanting to try ENGL and lacking the funds for the larger amps in the series, the GigMaster is a fabulous alternative. It's not a Savage 120, but then it's £1,500 less so what do you expect?!! That said it's not really £1,500 less in sound terms. Fabulous, well worth trying.

Re: Useful Stuff
Mijf, while taking the opportunity to have a go at his rival himself, is right: this is a topic for gear links and info, not the same bickering that goes on in every other topic.

Re: Useful Stuff
Here's a link to the Lace Sensor Pickups site, where all the technical detials of the various "colours" of Lace can be found. Personal favorites are the "Silver" versions, though I've enjoyed the "Blue" versions recently as well. The "Silver" versions are very like Texas Specials, without the harsh edge and the noise!
LACE Sensor Pickups
Allegedly Mr Blackmore used the standard stock Gold Lace pickups, which may or may not be true, probably only Jim Manngard could actually tell you if he did or didn't. JIm was Blackmore's actual Tech and still works with him today. The Gold Lace has a fairly thin output and these alone will give you nothing "Blackmore" in your sound, but may be part of it. It's worth noting that Lace will carry out a custom winding for anyone for around $200, so it's likely Blackmore may have had some "specials" done, equally with his tape deck in the signal chain, maybe not necessary, due to the huge potential gain/boost the tape deck can provide.
In the current Blackmore stage guitar there is a Telecaster bridge version of the Velvet Hammer pickup in the middle position, it doesn't fit very well but it's there. Perhaps acting as a dummy coil, perhaps doing something else, perhaps doing nothing at all, perhaps hiding something else. Who knows? For sure, Not Dawk, for sure Not BSM Bernhard, but Jim Manngard does and he's not telling!
