Re: Pics from the Norway gigs

I guess we all live on past memories but what else can we do. The more Purple shows I go to see these days the more I miss Blackmore and Lord although I do like Steve and Don, but something is really missing. I don't want to sound harsh and unfair (they're all in the mid 60s for god's sake) but it doesn't seem genuine anymore for me. Anyway, I'll stick to my 80s and 90s memories of Purple.

I think they genuinely like to play and enjoy what they do. They are a good band still, and I enjoy the shows.. But it's far from the mindblowing experience they could be a while back. And, yes, since Blackmore was my main 'hero' when I first heard their albums, I miss the sound of him..

I think you're right in the sense that if any of those guys where to form a new band today, it would not be anything like Purple.. Maybe apart from Don. He miss the heavier sound when they record new albums, I read him say somewhere..

It's a strange situation for many of us who have been following Purple for so many years. It was a different bad, that's obvious, but not many realize that it was, as you said, a mindblowing band. They were exceptional and managed to suprise every single night. The guitar-organ battles were one of the kind and, unlike today, they were spontaneous and inventive. I listened to a fantastic bootleg from 1988 from Cologne. That's exactly what I miss.

Another Ian Paice "one hand" gag... Now one hand drumming and second hand is playing air bass... I hope that he will do another ones - that one from 2009 was really funny!

But this version from 2002 is even better. Loads of anergy, great Gillan - plus Jon Lord! Great sound.

Re the 2002 clip: Gillan is just wonderful here. A different kind of energy from the band too. A bit sad to see the difference 8 years make... :/ Miss the Gillan in this clip.
