Wasted sunsets in the UK
According to the Highway star, dP played Wasted sunsets in the UK. They also played the usual Rotd and Wrong Man and brought back SifLs and No one Came.
This is good news. Now they just have to change the Hush/Bn encore.
Next week in Belgium, I'll be there!

Re: Wasted sunsets in the UK
The set list from Manchester:
1 Intro/Highway Star
2 Things I Never Said
3 Wrong Man
4 Strange Kind Of Woman
5 Wasted Sunsets
6 Rapture Of The Deep
7 Fireball
8 Contact Lost/Steve Morse solo
9 Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
10 The Well-Dressed Guitar
11 Wring That Neck
12 No One Came
13 Don Airey solo
14 The Battle Rages On
15 Space Truckin’
16 Smoke On The Water
17 Speed King (incl. Roger Glover solo and rock/pop medley)
18 Hush
19 Black Night
I think it's a great setlist!
5 tracks from Mark Morse, the two solo from the "new" guys, some songs from Mark IIb,c, some classics and some old not so-classics, plus a couple of MkI...This is gettin close to what we've been asking for!
It only took...10 years or so

Ahh I missed this topic and posted about it in the general purple too, oh well, no harm.
But how can this be good news? Purple should do the world a favour and stop embarrassing themselfs on stage.

Re: Wasted sunsets in the UK
That's a great set list compared to the "MKII Tribute Set List"!!! Fantastic, and it's great that they finally bring in a song like Wasted Sunsets! Superb!

10, of 19 songs are mkII, 2 are mkI and 2 are instrumentals, wich leaves us too only 5 (!!!) Morse era songs.
And Wasted Sunsets is mkII as well as No One Came wich was played before. So how is this an improvement?!
It would be superb if they brought in songs live Silver Tounge or Junkyard Blues, not Wasted Sunsets wich im sure video and audios will prove was a monumental failure.

Re: Wasted sunsets in the UK
They've played Silver tongue and Junkyard. It's good to bring something that they've never played before weither it's a MK VIII or any other.
We all know that 90 % of the audience expects MKII material.
Maybe if dP would do a dP Fan Forum private gig, they could do a mark Morse show, but otherwise this is what we'll get till they retire, and for me as long as they add variations here and there and keep songs from the current mark in the set list (5 is fine), that's all good.

But the problem is, Gillan keeps slagging off Blackmore and keeps saying how they moved on and they all have been saying how happy they are and are trying to paint a picture that their a ˙˙new band˙˙ and yet the rely heavily on mkII material. They should only play 5 (even that is 2 too much) mkII songs and 10 of their own.
I know they are playing for the masses and that to me means they are only doing it for the money. Even if they only played 3 classic oldies and the rest new stuff, they would still have thousands of people at concerts and wouldnt go bankrupt. But they dont give a rats ass about their real fans, all that Gillan and his band of merry man want is MONEY - and lots of it!
But since they're rely heavily on songs mainly crafted by one Ritchie Blackmore, Gillan could at least give him the decency and not take a piss on him in every interview. But Gillan aint man enough to do so it seems

Re: Wasted sunsets in the UK
He's man enough to keep the dP flame alive. Blackmore is sure happy doing his BN, and that's fine, but I much prefer the Gillan's approach of playing the dP catalogue, even if it means playing mainly old songs.
I highly doubt that Gillan NEEDS to do that for the money, maybe Morse and Airey (although I very much doubt it too) are more in the need of a real job, but that's what they were hired for, and that's what they do; everybody knows that THE guitarist of dP is Blackmore, but since he doesn't want to play along, Gillan and co found the right replacement.
I guess we'll never really know, but I prefer to assume that Gillan does it for the fun. it's not because they reformed for the money back in 84 (including Blackmore), that they still do it for the money now.I'm pretty sure that if Paice, Gillan or Glover would enjoy a peaceful retirement (like Jon Lord), they could afford it.
