Slide it in 25

I just got myself the Slide it in 25th Anniversary version.
Great stuff, but the thing I don't get is:
The album is divided in U.S. and U.K. mixes, BUT, the U.S. mixes are in the running order of the european version; none of the version of GAMBLER are similar to the european mix, and ther's also another version of NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD than I have on the "Give me more time" maxi single.
I know that the story and the different releases and line-ups of S.I.I. are a bit complex, but this release doesn't help a bit!

And as a matter of fact you'd still need the U.K. version and the "Give me more time" maxi to have all mixes.

I really wish they would have put the U.S. and the U.K. mixes clearly and as they were release back then plus bonus tracks at the end.

Or does it make sense to you?

I don't have the disc yet, but as far as I know "Need Your Love So Bad" is the 1987 version with Bill Cuomo (b-side if some Is This Love maxis). And maybe they accidentally used the Eddie Kramer "Gambler" mix from the "Guilty Of Love" single as UK mix on the disc?

The one on this disc sounds more modern, with synths that could come from the 1987 period, where the version I have on vinyl is a more "church" version, with a church-like organ.
Both vocals and keyboards have been re-recorded.

The most disgraceful thing about the reissue of Slide It In is, as I have already wrote, is that there are actually two songs missing off the original UK mix of the album, plus we get the UK vsn songs ...as bonus tracks.
What the F+$K!!!

Coverdale probably just didn't like the versions left out.

I have to get this release though. It's my favourite WS album and I've probably heard the (an?) European version of the album so far, so it will be interresting to compare at least some of the versions.

Gambler and Standing in the Shadow of Love are among the best WS songs ever. And Guilty of Love is always such a great blast of positive energy!

It's definitly worth getting it, but as I said before, you need to keep the european S.I.I. release as a companion, especially if that's the version you're used to.

Cheers, I'll do just that!

Re: Slide it in 25

I finally got this delivered yesterday and gave it a blast through the hi-fi last night and the i-Pod this morning. It's a shame they decided to put on the Starkers version of Love Ain't No Stranger rather than the UK album mix- and yes there is still another UK mix track missing. But, other than that, this is a brilliant re-issue. I've seen the quality of the remastering job slated in reviews of the album on Amazon, but I think it sounds brilliant and shows up what a bloody good album this was. I've no complaints. The artwork and presentation are totally 1st class too.

I also received the SOTT remaster and played some of it this morning.I'm afraid that no amount of sonic tweakery can save this album- not in my eyes anyway. The title track is probably my least favourite WS track of all time with ridiculously "pushed" vocals during the verses from DC. It's always hard to get into an album that gets off to a bad start and I'm afraid I've just never warmed to this album. It's such a shame, as at the point in time when this was released, DC had the music world in the palm of his hand. Anyway, I'm off to give Slide It In a good review on Amazon!
