GnR, Aerosmith, And Purple????
I glanced over a ritchiestrat post concerning this....
Never heard of it !
What a weird line-up!
I know Areosmith opened for Purple in '74.
This line-up strikes me as weird.
Looking for dates and links and more news if anyone has them. (It's late and I will surf and google later)

Re: GnR, Aerosmith, And Purple????
In 74 Purple was THE biggest selling act on the planet
and needed no such crap to fill a hall whatsoever.
That was the year they were given the Billboard coveted
award for selling more record's inside one year
than anyone before them, including Elvis and the Beatles.
Top selling act of 1973 I believe it was.
And the compitition was tough,
with artist's like Elton John, David Bowie,Wing's
Led Zeppelin and even Elvis himself.

Deep Purple opened for GnR and Aerosmith somewhere in New York in 1988 (or was it 1989)?
I think it was a one off date...

Deep Purple were second on the bill at the Giants Stadium in 1988. Guns n' Roses opened the show, next up was Deep Purple and Aerosmith closed the show.
I attended the show and Deep Purple were running on empty at this time, major internal problems between RB and IG.

I was up close and the sound seemed to be more of a problem that night than the internal strife.

Re: GnR, Aerosmith, And Purple????
Two days prior to the Giants Stadium show, Deep Purple played a warm-up show in Baltimore at the old Hammerjacks. While waiting for the doors to open Ian Gillan and Bruce Payne were walking to Bruce's car with Ian yelling at Bruce that he could not work with "that !@#$ pain the ass, Blackmore". The show at Hammerjacks was pretty good, had seen much better in 1985. The internal strife in 1988 was clearly hurting Purple's live performances.

Now that's pretty damn funny. God how I wish I were there for that one. There's just no way I'd be able to keep my mouth shut after that one.
Gillan "I can't work with that !@#$ pain in the ass Blackmore no more"
Payne "Shutup Gillan, you drunken retard, don't rock the boat and we'll all make money here and you better start singin in tune cause The Squeely One is waiting in the bathroom for his shot. Don't !@#$ with the Master"
