Material from In Rock should be Speed King and Child In Time.
From Fireball The Mule(without drum solo) and the solo of Fools during Ritchie´s solo part in Mandrake Root.
From Machine Head Highway Star and Lazy.

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
I've heard that another song from "In Rock" that was being played live before it was recorded in sudio was "Into The Fire".
A couple more I'm not sure of right now (hey, it's early here! ) are "Black Night" + "Strange Kinda Woman". Were these being done live before being recorded in studio also?
After thinking about it some more, maybe some of the material from "Fireball" was being tried out in the live sets before the album was released, if not actually before the tracks were recorded in studio...

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
Black Night and Strange Kind Of Woman(both extra designed for the single format) were maybe performed before they were released but not before they were recorded. Remember the story about the struggle they had recording Black Night? If they had worked it out on stage before it wouldn´t have been such a big deal getting it recorded.

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
The more I think about it (and the more caffiene that gets into my system!) I think you've got it right, Milan. "Strange Kinda Woman" was put into the set very shortly (less than a month?) after it was recorded, so it was probably just a case of it being performed live before the album release. Come to think of it, I think "No One Came" may be in this category, too.
I think you've got the "Black Night" one right, too. Of course, here in the States, "Black Night" wasn't on "In Rock" as "Demon's Eye" wasn't on "Fireball". Which is of course, neither here nor there as far as this topic goes...

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
For me, Long Live Rock 'n Roll just barely beats the first 2 albums.
Great songs...the title track (or course!), Kill he King, L.A. Connection, The Shed (subtle), Gates of Babylon, Rainbow Eyes...all (I consider) classics!
And if "also might" have something to do with the fact that this was Dio's last Rainbow album.
Oh...can anyone here tell me what the title "The Shed (subtle)" means...I don't have a clue.

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
Bent out of shape is THE best Rainbow album EVER! Never got tired of it. Followed by Long live Rock'n'roll/Straight between the eyes. So the 2/3 place is a draw for me. I'm a litte bit tired of Rising these days. I guess a case of overplaying back in a highschool.
Anyway:
1. Bent Out Of Shape
2. Long Live Rock'n'Roll/Straight Between The Eyes
3. Down to Earth/Rising
4. Difficult to cure
6. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
7. SIUA

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
The first one was the best. Nice variety of styles to the songs.
Favorite non Dio album is Straight Between the Eyes.
Hey. Nobody can accuse me of being a band wagon jumper.

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
I voted for the 1st album. Been listening to it lately a lot. What a great, varied effort.

The first one for me too.
Hmmm, I must've missed this thread when it first came up.

Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Album
RB's Rainbow for the finest guitarwork.
Rising is of course a killer, but to me Long Live Rock'n Roll is the one. If I have to pick one.
