Never got tired of it. Followed by Long live Rock'n'roll/Straight between the eyes. So the 2/3 place is a draw for me. I'm a litte bit tired of Rising these days. I guess a case of overplaying back in a highschool. Anyway: 1. Bent Out Of Shape 2. Long Live Rock'n'Roll/Straight Between The Eyes 3. Down to Earth/Rising 4. Difficult to cure 6. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 7. Great songs...the title track (or course!), Kill he King, L.A. Connection, The Shed (subtle), Gates of Babylon, Rainbow Eyes...all (I consider) classics! And if "also might" have something to do with the fact that this was Dio's last Rainbow album. Oh...can anyone here tell me what the title "The Shed (subtle)" means...I don't have a clue. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Purple Avenger)Mon, 28 Jun 2004 13:32:10 +0000 Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Albumhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20517,from=rss#post20517https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20517,from=rss#post20517 The more I think about it (and the more caffiene that gets into my system!) I think you've got it right, Milan. "Strange Kinda Woman" was put into the set very shortly (less than a month?) after it was recorded, so it was probably just a case of it being performed live before the album release. Come to think of it, I think "No One Came" may be in this category, too.  I think you've got the "Black Night" one right, too. Of course, here in the States, "Black Night" wasn't on "In Rock" as "Demon's Eye" wasn't on "Fireball". Which is of course, neither here nor there as far as this topic goes... nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Tue, 02 Mar 2004 15:54:40 +0000 Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Albumhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20516,from=rss#post20516https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20516,from=rss#post20516Black Night and Strange Kind Of Woman(both extra designed for the single format) were maybe performed before they were released but not before they were recorded. Were these being done live before being recorded in studio also?  After thinking about it some more, maybe some of the material from "Fireball" was being tried out in the live sets before the album was released, if not actually before the tracks were recorded in studio...nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Tue, 02 Mar 2004 15:01:02 +0000 Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Albumhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20514,from=rss#post20514https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20514,from=rss#post20514quote:Nigel wrote: Material from 'Shades Of' was played live before being recorded.... from 'In Rock'.... from 'Fireball' (including the 'cello' part from 'Fools' and 'The Mule' was done a few times before IG nailed the lyrics).... two from 'Machine Head'.... but not 'No No No'. As has been said, May or June would be about right. "Early lyrical versions were titled "Got To Get Away'...'That song was written especially for the stage show. We felt that we didn't have a song that was hard enough to open the show, so we put this song together. It's about a chess game - just the basic idea to checkmate the king or kill him. But you can read into it whatever you want." - Ronnie James Dio "I was involved in the writing of that with Cozy, that was the first band thing we did. Had I still been in the band, I'd have got (a writing credit) for it" - Jimmy Bain. Going by the timing, that statement can be taken a few different ways! Both quotes from "Rainbow Rising" by Roy Davies.nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Tue, 02 Mar 2004 03:30:31 +0000 Re: Favorite Rainbow Studio Albumhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20509,from=rss#post20509https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p20509,from=rss#post20509Nigel wrote: quote:Early 1976.... it's on the recordings from May 1976's pre-tour rehearsals (Tower Of Babel) and was in the live set from June 1976: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nigel.d.young/rainbow/rainbow1.htm#1976 Now thats what I like to see,you sure corrected my but you tactfully addressed the person that brought it up,very polite of you Nigel.
