I didn't say you prefere Morse to Blackmore, I threw it in there because many sem to think that to support him in any light, is to dis on Blackmore, and it's simply bollocks, but once these people notioned it, they have been clinging to such a notion ever since, even though nothing of the sort is even remotely indicated.
It's just a figment of their imaginations and something that serves to feed their crusade.
Exactly! There is no middle ground for those people in question. You either hate Blackmore and love Morse, or you hate Morse and love Blackmore! It's childish, stupid, brainless s.hit talking nonsense from beginning to end.
I am a Blackmore fan, but that doesen't mean I worship him so much that I feel I have to say that everything he has ever done is work of greatness. It's not! I can hear that there is quality to everything he has done, but that is him. It is the way he play his instrument. The music as a whole can be pure crap, but Blackmores playing can be great. Blackmore plays great on S&M, but the songs are weak. That album should never have been released under the Deep Purple banner.
His current project...well, most of you know how I feel about BN by now. I can hear that his playing is excellent, but that doesen't help when most of the songs and the band are crap.
I feel sad for the man. He was, and probably is, the greatest hard rock guitarist of all time, and he is wasting his talent on AOR.
In the words of Red Forman: Crap!

You miss the point completely as usual. Bolin wasn't a good fit but tried to fit in. Come Taste the Band isn't a bad album but the tour was a disaster. Morse has made no attempt to fit in and has all but admitted that he's in it for the money.

IMO PS is just as good as Machine Head, it's only a little different. Same goes for Purpendicular. It's different, but just as good.
Agreed. Different, but just as good...or as Dartagnan wrote: PS is not in the same league. Which of course means different leagues. Both great, just different.
I almost feel bad for Purple fans such as Dartagnan, they're missing out on good albums like Purpendicular.
Enjoyable bootleg by the way.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Of topic we go.....again!
Once again Mr Widdles impresses with his knowledge of English Humour! (Note to self, must try and include more Python and Young Ones quotes in my own posts!)
...but I digress...we all know your opinion on the RB vs SM debate ( I like both so I must be weird!) but as a keyboard player, I don't subscribe to Guitar World magazine or Guitar Player magazine which I think voted Steve Morse the best player for five consecutive years prior to his joining/ruining (dependant on your point of view) DP so which magazine has the most kudos with today players?
Obviously Richie is one of the most influential players of his generation and likewise I would have thought Steve Morse is to (young) players of today. Whether you prefer one style to another is up to the individual.

Well, to be honest, I meant that IR, Fireball and MH are in the premier league, with PS in the division below.
I don't buy rock albums very often. I play rock in bands, and blues, and such like stuff, but prefer to listen to either my old 'classic rock' albums from the late 60s and '70s, or classical guitar music.
Part of my problem with rock music is the lyrics. Generally, they make me squirm with embarassment. You could feel sorry for the singer if it wasn't for the fact that 9 times out of 10, the singer is responsible for the lyrics in the first place!
Then there's the predictable nature of the music itself. Opening riff, couple of verses and a chorus, and, yep, there it is, the guitar solo etc etc.
Without hearing it, I would imagine that Purpendicular follows a similar pattern?
Mind you, I must confess to being completely and utterly blown away by Jeff Beck's playing. I've bought a few of his cds over the last few years and can't believe I overlooked him for so long! Now there's a true musician who's not afraid to try to do something different, and yet it always has that unmistakeable Beck feel to it.
As I've said before, I'm here for nostalgic reasons and a bit of banter. I still listen to my old classic Purp albums, and I probably always will.

You'd be suprised at Purpendicular, some songs don't even have what are trad riffs.
Bass line carries one song with very little guitar in it at all, and the organ carries another with no guitar solo... all the while there is killer interplay throughout... vinatge Lord and Paice as well, for those who aren't hard of hearing.
No two songs anywhere near alike on the album.(it's primary strength)

Meaning, Purp is a relly great Purp album

You'd be much better off buying Feinstein's Third Wish metal masterpiece than the humiliating Burpindicular.
