All they´ve changed is the main song as vehicle for the solos to Stíll I´m Sad. They're just too chopped, with the all-important drom solo edited out of both. Maybe the producers felt the spectacle didn't translate to a non-visual medium? Who knows, but it was a bad decision to leave it out, in my opinion. So I cast my vote for the Yardbirds' version...nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Wed, 22 Oct 2003 01:56:59 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19402,from=rss#post19402https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19402,from=rss#post19402In my opinion the Yardbirds version is one of the best vocal tracks of all time. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Milan Fahrnholz)Tue, 21 Oct 2003 19:46:21 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19401,from=rss#post19401https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19401,from=rss#post19401Live In Germany Live In Germany Live In Germany Live In Germany   nondisclosed_email@example.com (Atle)Tue, 21 Oct 2003 19:03:21 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19400,from=rss#post19400https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19400,from=rss#post19400I voted for the Rainbow instrumental version. It just rocks. I don't think I've ever heard a more original reworking of a tune. Blackers picked the most unusual Yardbirds track and turned it into a killer rock track. I only didn't vote for the Yardbirds version because, when Keith Relf sings the last, "Oooh, I'm sad...", he sounds like a wounded owl. I don't particularly like the live Dio version, and I can't really explain why!nondisclosed_email@example.com (dkmonroe)Tue, 21 Oct 2003 18:21:19 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19399,from=rss#post19399https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19399,from=rss#post19399My personal favourite is the SIUA version. The instrumental actually sounded happier. Yes on the Osaka gig everything was a bit longer due to Ritchie´s extensive solos. Usually Still I´m Sad had a duration time of 20-25 minutes. This evening Still I´m Sad had over 30 minutes, Catch The Rainbow 22 minutes and Man On The Silver Mountain 17 minutes. If you ever heard the full version of Still I´m Sad(at least 20 minutes long), you´ll find the versions on Live In Germany and On Stage pretty boring, as you see how cut they are.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Milan Fahrnholz)Tue, 21 Oct 2003 11:23:32 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19396,from=rss#post19396https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19396,from=rss#post19396The Rockpalast Munich '77 version is awsome IMHO. Simply brilliant. I don´t like the offical live versions done by Rainbow because they´re both quite cut. The Live In Germany version lacks the orchestra tape part of the drum solo and the the On Stage version omits the entire drum solo. Both miss out the beginning solos and I belive that the guitar and keyboard solos during the actual songs are also shortened down. But if I had to take a bootleg version, I´d take the 30 minute version on Starstruck Live In Japan 1978.  nondisclosed_email@example.com (Milan Fahrnholz)Mon, 20 Oct 2003 21:23:28 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19392,from=rss#post19392https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19392,from=rss#post19392The instrumental version on the first Rainbow record is my favourite. Another great cover of the tune was done by Axel Rudi Pell (Johnny Gioelli on the vocals, absolutely fantastic singer) and is very frantic in pace finishing very effectively with the same way Rainbow ended the song live (the staccato climax).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Christos Gatzidis)Mon, 20 Oct 2003 20:55:34 +0000 Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Versionhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19391,from=rss#post19391https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p19391,from=rss#post19391I missed the Boney M version there. To me, the On Stage version is tops. The Stranger in Us All version is great, but I miss the quieter hums before belting out "Still I'm Sad". The SIUA version sounds a little rushed when getting to the chorus I guess.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Carramba)Mon, 20 Oct 2003 20:49:14 +0000
