Re: HOBL underrated?
I remember the Circus magazine. The headline was Purple Cut a Classic.

Re: HOBL underrated?
It's a bit strange with HoBL for me. When it came out, I loved it and saw them on 5 shows on the 87 tour (as I tried to sing louder than Big Ian my voice was lost for two weeks then ). The only thing I was missing was a real guitar roar on at least one of the pieces.
When I listened to it years later it didn't survive a complete spin. I perceived the sound as far too 80ies-like, e. g. Jon's synths on Mad Dog gave me the creeps.
Outstanding tracks to me are Bad Attitude (however, it didn't really translate to stage in my humble opinion) and Mitzi Dupree. But most of the others are children of the 80ies and didn't age well. If this is what you call "poor production" - well, then we are on the same track. However, from today's view I'd also say that this was when Ritchie very openly started recycling snippets from older songs. Just look at the Dead or Alive solo vs Gypsy's Kiss solo.
