10 Year Anniversary of the Liberation.
It's coming up to the date when back in 1993 Blackers tore up his Japanese passport in front of the rest of the band and soon called it a day.
It was a day of Liberation for each party, DP had gone as far as Blackmore could take them and Blackmore was hamstrung staying in DP. DP was definately running out ideas as evident by the numerous recycled riffs of the Battle Rages On. This carried on over to The Stranger in US All.
Without El Dictator Blackmore, DP got a new breath of life and got to go off in different directions and bring more experimentation to the band.
After giving rock another try in the mid 90's version of Rainbow, RB decided he too needed a fresh start so he start wearing tights and formed Blackmore's Nights. It was a project that was so different than anything he ever done. He shows us he can master the Spanish guitar, classical guitar, and the lute as well he handled the electric guitar.
Simply said, the split was the best for both parties.

Stole the words right out of my mouth.....I often say, the split was best for both parties. I wouldn't change a thing...other than it was a shame to miss one last chance to see DP with Blackers again.

Re: 10 Year Anniversary of the Liberation.
Yep you're right there Dio.
If the story about RB ripping up his passport in front of the rest of the band in the middle of the tour are true, how did he get out of whichever country they were in and how did he get back to the States without a passport?
What would be funnier would be the reason given when requesting a replacement passport .."Oohh! I had a bit of a moody on me and ripped me old one up!"
But seriously, I subscribe to Jon Lord's view that life doesn't revolve around one man and they were able to move on. We have Richie's legacy, Steve's new input, a cracking new album, Richie is happy, DP are happy, we should be happy!

Re: 10 Year Anniversary of the Liberation.
The story is he tore up his Japanese visa which would keep him from touring there with the band.
In a reponse to the original post. DP didn't run out of ideas, Blackmore did! Since RB refused to play anything he didn't write his lack of ideas hurt the band.
Long live DP with Morse!!!

The story from Ritchies side of things was that he had already told Bruce and the band of his intentions to leave prior to the Japanese dates.
Ritchie had gotten a call from one Mr Udo (Big time Jap promoter) about the upcoming tour and he was still under the impression that RB was still in the band. Bruce had not informed any of the promoters and everything was going to go as planned. RB was pretty miffed by this and went to Bruce to tear up his Visa in front of him to show Bruce that he meant business.
Is that right English Rob? (he knows first hand what went down)

Re: 10 Year Anniversary of the Liberation.
Who cares...The point is when and how do we celebrate?
Can't they do a concert on line for the people on this forum? That's the least they could do!
Both dP and BN of course
