Coverdale vs. Hughes, then and now.
Who do you or did you prefer?
Then: Coverdale, No contest. Just play the bass, Glenn. I justed didn't like his high pitch shrieks (like on Burn) during the live shows and most of his studio work I didn't really care for. I do actually like Holy Man. Other than that, I can take or mainly leave it.
Now: Will have to say Coverdale by default as I haven't heard any of the Turner-Hughes Project. The CD is just not available in my area.

Re: Coverdale vs. Hughes, then and now.
Very, very hard actually.
I´d say Coverdale in Purple and Whitesnake was brilliant. Then again, so was Hughes/Thrall. But Hughes was awesome on the studio recordings of DP as well.
Glenn today is absolutly brilliant. Coverdale is still an unbelivable performer.
Afterall, how to compare them?
Well, that´s a draw isn´t it? Okay...
Then: Coverdale; Now: Hughes

Re: Coverdale vs. Hughes, then and now.
In Deep Purple both were hopefully lost.
David Coverdale made some great work with Whitesnake then.
Nowadays Glenn is the better singer, but still lacks charisma. David is still a great performer, but has lost a lot of his voice.
None...

Re: Coverdale vs. Hughes, then and now.
Coverdale and Hughes have always been two of my favourite Purple members, so it's hard to pick and choose between them.
Burn : Coverdale edges this due to Mistreated.
Stormbringer : Honours divided equally.
Come Taste The Band : Glenn is stronger vocally on this - Coverdale seems a bit strained at times.
Late 70s - mid 80s : Coverdale, absolutely no contest. At the top of his game, the best vocalist around for that era.
90s -> present : Glenn is the man - his solo albums have gone from strength to strength and he is singing now like no one else on the planet.

Re: Coverdale vs. Hughes, then and now.
Hughes was always a voice-giant to me.Always wondered how a white man can be blessed with such one.
I personally prefer DC when with early WS,but that's mainly because of his performing, charisma and expression.I for myself think that DC wasn't on his peak when with Purple, though the way he sung Burn in the studio was great.
So it will always be DC for me,the imprint he left on me during the early years is too huge.Early WS was "my" band and will always be.
