hopefully all these bad reviews will encourage lackmore to go back to playing heavy rock

Maybe we'll see Rainbow back together soon emoticon

In the first encores he seemed a bit distant and then he cut Black Night short and left the stage, then he came back on, played the riff a few more times and stopped before picking up an acoustic and playing a Midwinter's Night/Dandelion Wine medley. It didn't seem like the rest of the band really knew what he was doing and it certainly confused the audience.

It's kinda hard to explain...it was just....erm....weird.

It is this standoffish attitude that RB has that just pisses me off. Give me Morse and DP a thousand times before I see crap like this. With DP you get a great and professional performance unlike the crap you had to witness.

First off, I was so pissed off during the performance that I found it hard to enjoy and get into so this isn't really a review and not the kind of thing you'd take and put alongside other reviews on a website, (no names mentioned but you know who you are emoticon ).

This was the worst organised concert I have ever been to, the clowns responsible couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, and the Blackmore's Night team did their part to spoil it as well.

I probably would have been able to overlook the shortcomings and enjoy myself under better circumstances but the organisation ruined it and it was so awkward that I left the place relatively near the front where I'd managed to get to and went to the back, away from the main crowd and picking out all the flaws throughout the rest of the gig.

There were so many negative things that I'll have to bullet-point them....

- The queue outside consisted of everyone sort of shuffling up the steep and increasingly narrow path to the gates and sort of hoping that they'd get to the front and have their tickets checked. Nothing marked out, nothing organised.

- Ushering was nonexistant.

- There were only enough seats for about half of the audience.

- The "seats" were benches with no spaces
marked and they were badly laid out.

- The big marquee with the sound desk in it was put up right up against the last row of benches and right in the middle of the field so everyone that was forced to stand was also forced to stand to one side in order to see anything at all. I saw Yes last week and the sound equipment was right at the back of the standing area so it didn't obstruct anyone's view, would it have killed them to show the same courtesy to the fans?.

- The courtyard was muddy, uneven and covered in straw.

- My special costume ticket and willingness to make an idiot out of myself supposedly guaranteed me a place within the first three rows but nothing was done to ensure this and I, along with quite a few more costumed people, ended up at the back and cheated out of what was promised...."Blackmore's Night appreciates all our fans that make the effort to dress up".....do they bollocks.

- Not only was nothing done to make sure the people that had ordered their tickets early and dressed up got what they were promised but there were an awful lot of people whose idea of "Renaissance Garb" was a Blackmore's Night t-shirt to go with their jeans. About 3 out of every 10 people that were sitting in the supposedly reserved rows weren't dressed up and there's no way the security and crew could have missed it yet they did fuckall and just let it happen.....BASTARDS!!!!!.

- They seem to have recruited the bar staff from the local McDonalds, the person that was serving me halfway through a multiple order buggered off after taking my money but not giving me all the drinks and I ended up paying for the same beer twice.

- There was a cameraman swinging a camera around on a long boom and it was coming dangerously close to people's heads.

- I don't know if it was because they were all as pissed off as I was but the audience contained some of the rudest people I have ever encountered...especially the twat who pushed me back from the front and was sitting in one of the reserved rows despite not being dressed up....ARSEHOLE!!!!!!.

The performance.....

- It's hard for me to give a fair evaluation of the performance, it wasn't bad but I don't think it was as good as the last time I saw them....certainly not worth the money or the journey though.

- Ritchie was playing alright, he was in a good mood but he did start acting a bit weird during the encores.

- Candice was dreadful, flat as a pancake all night and most certainly worse than the last time I saw her.

- The soundman seemed to know this and he was being very generous with the effects. There was so much reverb it was like she was singing down a well, the chorus unit was definitely turned on and I'm sure I heard some echo on Soldier of Fortune.

- Although I have a great deal of respect for anyone that can play the violin at a professional level, I don't think the new violinist is as good as the last one.

- Once In A Million Years was crap.

I don't think it was a bad concert but I didn't enjoy it by any means and I'll think twice before I pay to see Blackmore's Night again, I'm certainly not travelling for it.

Dear oh dear. And I though my experiences with Bob Dylan were bad enough!

I purchased the first two BN releases and found them mildly entertaining. But since BN never toured my area in support of their material I lost interest.

I hope that Blackers wakes up from the siren song spell Candice has him under and gets back in his time machine, comes back to the present, and rejoins the rising world of rock'n'roll.

Down with the minstrels! Long Live Rock and Roll! emoticon

Well lets look at history:

When Blackmore started playing and performing only half of what he has the ability to perform in other bands, didn't that normally signal that he is unhappy or in the alternative, going to form a new band/fire some one from existing band?

OR

Ritchie is filming the DVD and is giving performances only half adequate because he hates performing in front of the camera...

Glad I am to not be the only one who was unhappy!!

Equally, time moves on, things change. Time is no respector of talent or skill or anything else. People heading for old age and Ritchie is no exception tend to lose faculty and ability. Its a fact it happens, people get arthritis etc etc etc.

It's therefore not impossible to beleive that Ritchie actually cant' do it as well as he used any more and THAT is why he sometimes plays half adequate rather than full out. Sure, sometimes he can play on his old form and other times he just can't do it hence the performances are even more erratic than ever. It's sad but true that eventually he may be unable to do it well enough to get by. You can only judge this from live performances, studio work doesn't count because he only does that when he's 'on form', live stuff, he can't control it as well and it's pot luck. This explains a lot of the lack lustre playing on the bootlegs, the shows that are sometimes very long or very short and the apparent half-hearted playing at times.

I still think this is more the reason for the whole BN episode than anything else. Effectively when Ritchie took the BN option he retired!

That's true, Blackmore's Night is a lot like Jon Lord's retiring and doing his own thing too.

Aside from that, Blacker Than Night, remember calling David Coverdale "Coverdull"?

Start a new thread Blackmore's Night v. Whitesnake and let's see if that's true...
