Blackmores Night at the Keswick 9/19

Another stellar performance by BN. Ritchie and Candice showed no signs of the colds that were reportedly dogging them during the week. However most folks attending or coming over from the NYC area and LI show ran into some sort of trouble and delays due to the beating that we took in the form of Hurrican Ivan. Many towns and roads/highways were closed and detoured.
Not much changed in the setlist but there were some surprises in the form of Child In Time, Star Bangled Banner and an unaccompanied solo from Ritchie during FAM.
Child In Time being played in the middle of Preaterious when Ritchie broke into the tune by playing Lords chords to his own bass line. I always tend to look at songs as how they are presented without any prejudice from other versions and if the song can hold water on it's own without comparisons then it works for me. Surprisingly, CIT worked the way it was presented. Candice did a more than welcome job on the lyrical part as RB changed over to a nice acoustic slide accompaniement and Sisters of the Moon taking over for the operatic part. Of course if you are to compare it to Gillans screams of the 70's then it won't work for you, but if it were released without the prior knowledge of DP's CIT, it would work very well.
During Home Again, at the break, Ritchie broke into Hava-Nagilla only to have Candice interrupt with "wrong country dear", to which Ritchie replied with a sweet shortened version of our own Star Spangled Banner and was joined by the band. It really sounded nice on the acoustic.
Ritchie also took a solo spot during FAM after giving the band the quit sign so he can play some beautiful melodies over his own walking bass lines which was very impressive and eloquent.
There was no 16CG, but it was more than forgotten when Ritchie really stretched himself during his Strat solo to Writing On The Wall going back and forth from his slide to fingering and back again before breaking into the Burn riff and then some more soloing.
 Another excellent show.
Cheers to the crowd and it's sense of humor when we were asked for requests. The most notable being Ritchies most famous riff..."Iron Man". I never give credit to anyone or any band for thier disabilities to performing like having a cold, old age or anything like that and needn't have changed that for this show in spite of illnesses to RB and CN. The show was fantastic in and of itself.

I just saw them in Chicago on the 24th, and they were AMAZING. 16th Century Greensleeves was in the set, and fairly early too. Temple Of The King was also a nice surprise. The crowd was very very lively. I am not one for reviews so I will leave it at that..but it was one of the best shows I have ever seen and wouldnt even hesitate to see them again..

Oh and the funniest part of the night was when some guy kept yelling "Ritchie!" and some lady very rudely yelled back at him, "why are you yelling for him?!This is Candice Night's band!"..I laughed hard at that..Night's Blackmore..yeah right.

Setlist..Cant remember all songs but here it goes..(not in order)

Cartouche
Play Minstrel Play
Past Times With Good Company
Minstrel Hall
Fires At Midnight
16th Century Greensleeves
Writing On The Wall
Black Night
Rainbow Blues
Now And Then
Mid Winter's Night
Mr.Morris' Peagram and Sword
Temple Of The King
Solidier Of Fortune
Burn(Intro)& A Couple other riffs
Difficult To Cure
Child In Time
Self Portrait
Home Again
Star Spangled Banner
Diamonds And Rust
Durch Den Wald Zum Bach Haus
All For One
One or 2 other songs that I could not identify

I couldnt have asked for much more.

Ritchies Strat and FLIGHTOFTHERAT,

It was great reading these reviews!!! Sure wish they'd bring the "magic" to the West Coast! But we don't have any castles out here -- wait a minute, are there castles in Long Island???

:-)

Nice reviews. Thanks! Would sure like to see TMIB again someday!

BTW: FLIGHTOFTHERAT, Please send me an e-mail when you get a chance (re; setting up the GQCP Forum). Thx. :-)

Cheers,

The Doctor

I have already sent you an E-mail PM. Did you not get it? If you have a junk mail folder, make sure to check it. I will send out another one now.

FOTR,

Thanks!

I would be most unhappy if my computer were 'foolish' enough to place any e-mail from you in the 'Junk Mail Folder' ! :-) I'll look there next! Looking forward to working with you, thanks again.

Cheers,

The Doctor (Who?) :-)
