September 1987, after they played in the roman amphitheater in my hometown Verona. Such was the buzz after the show that I got to get Deepest Purple, House of the blue light, Made in Japan.
I one saw Bizet's Carmen in the Arena di Verona. Really quite an experience!

Re: What Year and Album
In 1978 by school friend grabbed me off the street, dragged me into his house and made me listen to the live version of strange king of women. The following day I went out and bought 24 Carat Purple for £3.24 from Rayners record shop on Park Street in Bristol. 44 years later the love affair is undimmed..

Re: What Year and Album
In 1984 I discovered them via the Perfect Strangers videoclip. Still, I did not buy any record (I was still a teen and did not have much money to buy albums) until the Summer of 1985, when Italian state television showed the Rockpalast Paris concert in it’s entirety one late evening. For some reason they were promoting it the days prior to the broadcast and there was a bit of a buzz, so I watched it on tv with my cousin, a classically trained piano player.
From that day a few things started: I took to buying their records, and I started playing guitar.

Re: What Year and Album
It was 1981 and if I remember correctly, the first 3 rock albums I bought on cassettes are:
Savoy Brown - Street Corner Talking
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Led Zeppelin IV
And of these 3, "Machine Head" is my fave.

Re: What Year and Album
First album I listened to is "Deep Purple". A schoolmate played "April" to me and then the whole album. I loved "In Rock" afterwards. But the first album I bought was "Fireball". It was the first time I could afford to buy an album. Lost interest, when Gillan and Glover left. Fell in love with the band again in 1993 and bought afterwards anything that was ever released by Deep Purple. Love the Morse-era. And meanwhile even the MKIII live releases. But I still think "Burn" and "Stormbringer" are the weaker DP albums.

Re: What Year and Album
I agree with you about the third album, one of my favorites, and Stormbringer which, to me, is still their worst album. I loved Burn though.

Re: What Year and Album
Never cared for music before I was 12.
End 1977,,I was at home all the time, my parents (sic)told me to go along with a cousin to the local monthly(...)disco evening in the village.
Feeling like a cat in a strange wharehouse. I finally opened up late in the evening when DJ did an hour of classicrock songs for the last of the Mohicans,a dying breed, who were ridiculed by the mainstream of the Zeitgeitsfolks for not being interested in current music.
Several LIVE IN JAPAN were played, first thought the " dancing" was crazy. THen fell in love with the music.
It were the times that CHILD IN TIME ranked no 1 in the top 100 of all times on the radio and I pushed my head into my parents Wharfedales during Jimmy Pages solo in Whola Lotta Love and I tried to tape a lot during the broadcast that went on hours into the night.
