Re: Mark IX?

This would be a good Deep Purple Mark X, even only for studio album.

Gutrie Govan an English guitarist who plays with Asia.

Great guitarist indeed but certainly not "legendary" either

Interesting. Mind you I find most of Rick Beato's videos fascinating.

In listening to Guthrie Govan I'm reminded of Tommy Bolin.

Re: Mark IX?

A couple of weeks now since the band announced Steve Morse 's departure and it doesn't seem clear to me if Simon McBride is now a permanent member or if he will continue as the touring guitarist. Anyone have any idea? The official website doesn't say anything about him becoming the new official guitarist although I suppose it could be assumed, or maybe not...

Re: Mark IX?

Yesterday he posted a photo of him putting together a pedalboard for the second Purple backline which doesn't get used in europe that much, so it's kind of clear that he'll stay with them, at least on the road.

I actually expect an official announcement quite soon, at least before the tour starts again in october.

As far as I know there has still been no official announcement if Simon McBride will be a new member. The official website of the band still lists Steve Morse as a member. So, do we think McBride will be announced or will he remain as a touring/part time/unofficial member?

Gillan, Glover, Paice and Airey should make a list of 5 guitarist that they want to record with them in the studio.

Just like what they did in 1994, when Steve Morse was in all their list.

Looks like DP is using Simon as touring guitarist and not announcing replacement. Just like Sabbath did with Bill Ward on their last record.

I'm glad they are planning on recording a new studio album, but I'm not that excited anymore, although I'm happy for that.

If the new guitarist is the same status as Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, Ritchie Blackmore, Paul Gilbert and many others, then I can't wait.
