Just watched Lazy from Istanbul and they sound like more of a hard rock band with McB! - which isn't a bad thing btw.

Re: Deep Purple live with Steve Morse or Simon McBride?
Sorry, but this is not a good topic... I am actually quite "annoyed" by some comments I have read online (which are like stabbing Steve to back with dagger at this very sad situation....). Simon is good guitar player, but he is guesting guitarist for some time - filling for Steve and I really hope and WANT Steve back soon - one of his homes is being on stage with DP! Simon is doing good job in terms of filling the gap, but no - I dont want him to be permanent guitarplayer in DP and I have quite a few reasons for it. And even suggestive question like in this topic is lacking respect to Steve... guitar player who saved the band decades ago and did impressive job with him. After few gigs some "fans" are able to throw him under bus....
One of my issues.... Steve used very different guitar sounds during show fitting for particular song (he developed his style of playing with DP through those decades). Simons variety of sounds is much more limited and having similar guitar sound for Uncommon Man and Space Trucking is not a good thing!

ptr is probably correct, it's a bit like discussing your favourite child, or dog, or horse.
What I would say is that the band seem to be enjoying themselves (smiles all round), and yes, I regret not jumping on a plane, flying halfway around the world, doing the 3 gigs and flying back home. I've enjoyed watching them on YouTube but to actually be there would've been something really special.
Roll on Glasgow and (front row) Birmingham, be that SM or SM(cB).

I'll agree with ptr on this one. After a few gigs, we are going to decide who is better with DP? This is way different than the Blackmore/Morse comparison when Steve assumed his duties with the band. A Satriani/Morse comparison would have been a good discussion back then, but it was a moot point, given the circumstances. Morse came on during a difficult time and has done a fine job with DP. He has been nothing but a consummate professional and a steady hand for the band. This is just wrong in so many ways.

It's one of those zillions of "this vs that" threads. I've had anough of that years ago already.

Oh come on??? After all these years, we are comparing SM with a stand in player? A bit of respect wouldn't go amiss.
