If Satriani was Mark VI then McBride is Mark IX.
After all there is a Mark IIc.
There is no official rule saying under which condition a line-up qualifies as a "Mark".

Re: Mark IX?
Weren’t there other times when Jon and Roger were substituted for a short while due to illness? And didn’t Randy California sub for Ritchie back in the days for a gig or two?
These did not become a lineup, so I would guess it depends on how ‘stable’ the replacement becomes and whether music is recorded by a particular lineup or not.

Re: Mark IX?
This may go on for some time. Cancer doesn't have a timetable. Could be over a year. The few gigs with California don't really count as they really didn't add up to a whole lot. Hopefully, Steve will be back soon enough.

Re: Mark IX?
How many gigs did Joe Satriani do with Purple? Wonder if Simon McBride will end up doing as many or more

Re: Mark IX?
If my maths is correct then Satriani played 34 shows with Deep Purple, Dec 2nd 1993 to July 5th 1994.
McBride is scheduled to play 29 shows.

Re: Mark IX?
If there is no official live with Joe Satriani, I don't think there will be official live album with Simon McBride.
Wait a minute Joe Satriani is now on earMusic the same record label as Deep Purple, earMusic Records should be the one to release an official Mark VI live album!
Am I right? Do you agree?

Re: Mark IX?
I watch the video of Steve Vai's "Teeth of Hydra".
There is a time or scene in the video that Steve Vai looks like Ritchie Blackmore. I don't know, there must be something wrong with my eyes or something else.

I agree. They should!
And then record some mark McBride show and release it.
As in why not? They are not like building a brand of the band name, anymore, are they? Any risk anyone would be confused about the numerous band members, all of a sudden? No? Then go for it!

Re: Mark IX?
I guess they don't realease anything from Mk Satriani because then they would have to pay royalties to Ritchie Blackmore.
