Turning To Crime 2.0?

https://youtu.be/NeHE337zMwc

Interesting topic by sea of tranquility.

What do you think?

I watched their 2.0 episode and there was some neat ideas...but in the end, we got what we got, and it's pretty solid.

Some of it is ridiculous. The prospect of IG covering a mark 3 or 4 song is zero.

Honestly - I dislike suggestion of boths and actually prefer real Turning To Crime tracklist to their. Reason is simple - I think there is no point of Deep Purple covering their contemporary artists - artists of their own generation. When I want to listen Nazareth or Black Sabbath I will play Nazareth or Black Sabbath, not Deep Purple playing them. Deep Purple covering Deep Purple has really zero value (it would not "enrich" Deep Purple catalog at all), it would end up in disaster like Whitesnake Purple Album was - you cannot beat the originals... Quite frankly - I dont get how fans of rock music can feel disdain to "boogie woogie" music - when its mother of what they love to listen to! As I once said - Rocking Pneumonia (as example) is sort of musical parent of Speed King (just recently I discovered it was done by Jerry Lee Lewis too, but frankly - Longhairs version is way cooler)... how can people not see and hear that?

I'm curious and interested about their take on the Purple family.

Rainbow
Whitesnake
Gillan

I think many fans don't know most of the songs of these artists, so it's like a new album.
Dixie Dregs
Captain Beyond
Four on the Floor
Fandango
Phenomena
Zephyr
James Gang

I like the suggestions. I don't think that Gillan could do some of the tunes these days unless they really changed them up. Soldier would be one he could do. Bird, which he did when he first joined, would be another. Maybe some of the other MKI stuff. I doubt that most MKIII, Nazareth and other tunes would suit him now. PTR is right, for the most part. It is a tribute to the performers that influenced them and not to the ones of their time and beyond. emoticon

I would love to hear two songs performed by Purple:
- No More Cane On The Brazos
- Nobodys Fault But Mine (but not Zeppelin way, Tom Jones way!)

Don't see the point ptr? Ian already recorded an epic version off Brazos on Naked Thunder and his voice is far weaker now, dont see what a current DP version would do for us?
As for NFBM then great song but dont see why we need Gillan doing a Tom Jones version?Im sure Ian could do that version today but again why bother ?Tom did a decent version himself?

But then i Suppose DP started off by covering their early contemporaries?ie The Beatles,Joe South, Jimi Hendrix and even Neil diamond and Ike and Tina Turner !! until they found their own direction.
I do agree though if i want to hear Nazareth or Sabbath then i will listen to them and not DP covering them.
I disagree about Whitesnakes Purple Album i really enjoyed it.
As for rock fans not really liking boogie woogie music then i suppose even though early RnR was clearly the beginnings of rock music i personally dont care for some of it myself and indeed I am not a huge blues fan either i find it very samey and boring after while ie one or two tracks is enough for me.
Now Blues influenced rock like early Whitesnake i love but again not really a big fan of the boogie woogie tracks they included on the early albums.

I didnt mean copies of those versions I mentioned - I meant Purple takes of those arrangements. In both I think IG would shine.
