Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
I'm still waiting for my physical copies, but somehow I was able to listen to the whole album twice.
I love it! The album takes me back in time, a new experience in my Purple listening adventure.
I want another covers album from Deep Purple, please do another one.

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
I don't care much for Jenny Take A Ride or Shape OF Things and the medley is a bit cheesy but loving the rest.

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
7 and 7 is - 8/10 I like this one Paicey is excellent, it stops to soon though
Rocking Pneumonia - 6/10 meh its ok
Oh well - 7/10 as i mentioned on the previous thread kinda dull take on a classic but i have to say this version has grown on me
Jenny Take A Ride - 8/10 good old RnR
Watching The River Flow - 6/10 meh its ok
Let The Good Times Roll - 6/10 meh its ok
Dixie Chicken - 6/10 meh its ok
Shapes of Things - 7/10 ive heard some way better versions of this but its good
The Battle Of New Orleans - 4/10 very dull worst track on the album by far
Lucifer - 7/10 i like this one
White Room - 9/10 love this SM is brilliant here
Caught In The Act - 8/10 nice wee name that tune medley to finish
all in all a fun album
i actually agree with ptr both Gillan and Paicey are brilliant throughout SM is also brilliant when he stays away from the widdlefest which he does in the main

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
Agree about Battle of New Orleans being the worst moment (Roger at the mic? uh uh, no no, please) but I very much enjoy Let the good times roll as Paicey is so great on jazzy swing numbers like this one.

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
I knew the first 3 tracks before (as most of us did), so the first impression of the rest:
Let the good times roll
Jenny take a ride
Dixie chicken
and
The battle of new orleans
are my instant favourites. Very untypical DP :-)...
White Room: One of the greatest songs, DP very near at the original. Do I like it just because of the song itself or because of the DP version? Not sure yet!

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
BTW: Compared to Roadhouse Blues (which was lame) the new cover songs show a very inspired band with great energy.

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
Roadhouse Blues was done very quickly (under 30 minutes) as I recall. I'm pretty sure this album wasn't done in the same way.

Re: Turning to Crime - first impression
Whilst listening to TTC my wife walks through the room and says "that's not your usual choice of music". Mmm, she might be onto something...
