I don’t agree that DP did not work hard on House, in fact I believe they did overthink the record and ruined it by putting too much production, and the wrong one with hindsight.

1987 by a huge margin. More ballsier than HOBL.

I love them both emoticon picking one over the other depends on my mood at the time.
THOBL is a better album than PS IMHO and 87 is quite simply a brilliant album.
I think some of the criticism of 87 comes from people who cant get over the change of direction from the early bluesy Whitesnake?
Personally i loved every era of Whitesnake musically but hated the poodle perm girly man image of the hair metal era emoticon

Kinda true for me - the WS I loved best were the first ones, and by that I mean the self-titled album and Northwinds. After that, they gradually lost dynamics and transformed into an anthemic, bombastic band with simple arrangements like the blues, and to me became one-sided. Yes, great musicians, yes the occasional great song, but a little wasted playing that sped-up 3-chord blues whilst DC sang his immortal lyrics about…well, you know what, and the big hair forever put them into the 80ies for me.😎 Subtlety was not their forte.

How true. They basically over-thought themselves out of continued popularity in the States. Strangely enough, things started to pick up during the tour until Blackers broke his finger. Kind of a double whammy. Too late of a release and the tour stopped because of RB's broken finger. Oy! emoticon

You are right JSA1. In the Midwest where I live, some tracks were getting played, the album was climbing up the charts, and DP on tour were getting all kinds of Publicity. Once the Tour was stopped due to Ritchie's broken finger, it was like DP fell off the face of the earth. They never recovered. By the way, "Circus" Rock magazine gave HOBL a really great review at that time. I still remember the headline "Purple Cut a Classic".

On 1987 - I like the original version of Crying in the Rain then the remake. I thought Gimmie alll your love was weak. Not a fan of Is this Love. I know I will be minority here but I hated the original version Here I go Again and the 87 version is slightly better but I still don't like the song. Everything else on 1987 I love!!

As for HOBL - I can't stand Mitzi Dupree, Call of the Wild sounds forced and RB's playing just isn't there for me - he even admitted this in an interview. Can't remember the source.

So for me despite the fact that I dislike more songs on 1987 than I do on HOBL, I think the songs that I like on 87 are stronger than the songs I like on HOBL

Mitzi was not my favorite at all. Gillan sounded harsh, to say the least. Call Of The Wild was basically the single and actually kind of fun. There were some rockers, though. Bad Attitude was excellent. HLW rocked. The barnburners were Mad Dog and DOA. They just lit a rocket for under them and stood out. Spanish Archer was cool and Strangeways was interesting and basically became the basis for Anya on TBRO. Rocking tunes with crappy production. Too little, too late. Oy! emoticon

I think it was Gillan who said the spirit had gone after Blackers broke his finger. I have no reason to doubt that off stage that might be true. The evidence from the bootlegs of this period is radically different. My view is that HOBL has great songs but poor production and performances - principally from Blackers. The solo in Bad Attitude for example is poor. Live it's a different story. His guitar was poor live from the reunion up to breaking his finger. I think he sat down - and may have listened to the early 1987 tapes - and decided his live tone was awful (which it was). The tone ge got live in late 87 and 88 was miles better and the band performance reflect that. Verona 87, Copenhagen 88, Bremen 88, Cologne 87 (not 88 as advertised), Milan 87, Turin 88 and Kassel 88 are all excellent and all after the finger break -and mostly better than anything pre may 1987

The only good moments on 'Nobody's Perfect' are the HOBL tracks IMHO.
